The City of Albany is accepting applications for the position of Fire Inspector. This recruitment is to fill one full-time position with the Fire Department.
The PositionUnder general supervision this position conducts inspections to identify fire and life safety hazards and enforces applicable codes regulations and ordinances related to the prevention of fire thereby helping to protect life and property from fire and panic. The role receives supervision from the Fire Chief and does not supervise staff.
This classification performs a variety of responsible technical and specialized duties in fire safety and prevention including fire and life safety inspections hazardous materials disclosure and inspection engineering and code enforcement activities nuisance abatement and weed abatement. Related duties may be assigned as necessary to support the departments prevention and safety objectives.- Examples of Duties
- Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Possession of a high school diploma or G.E.D equivalent.
- Two years of Fire Safety Inspector or Building Inspector experience or the equivalent preferably with a municipal agency.
- Possession of a Fire Inspector 1 certification from CA State Fire Marshal.
- Possession of a valid California Drivers License with safe driving history.
- Has previous experience with a municipal agency.
- Possesses a valid International Code Council (ICC) Fire Inspector 2 Certification is highly desirable.
- Possess a Plan Check and/or a Fire Marshal certification accredited by one of these three agencies: International Code Council (ICC) Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) or National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA).
- Has excellent communication skills and is detail oriented.
- Selection Process
All completed applications will be reviewed. The most qualified applicants will be invited to participate in an oral board interview. Applicants who meet the minimum requirements are not guaranteed advancement through any phase of the process. The tentative recruitment timeline is as follows:
