As Data Science organization our goal is to harness the power of user data to help Maps make great decisions. We work in a data-driven environment where Data Scientists are instrumental in keeping the data that powers Apple Maps up-to-date and relevant.

We are looking for a talented experienced Data Scientist to join our cross-functional team focusing on the deep evaluation of Maps services and features. We work directly with the Engineering and Product teams responsible for search routing places FindMy and other products that impact our millions of users every day. Our day-to-day work crosses many functional areas including experiment design AB testing exploratory data analysis metrics design generative analytics data mining and more.

Build data products (datasets analyses models etc.) and tools (typically in Python or Scala) to drive hypothesis generation and support collaborative decision-making with our partner teams in engineering and product managementnCreate and validate actionable metrics at both the component level and to measure overall user engagementnDesign effective experiments for evaluating complex data and machine learning-based systemsnDevelop models and analyses to mine large volume of data extract insights and recommend opportunities for product improvementsnAutomate analyses and pipelines via SQL and Python/Scala-based ETL frameworksnCommunicate insights to partner teams to influence product direction with datanUse data intuition to translate product goals and business problems into solvable data science problemsnExplore rapidly evolving ML and GenAI techniques prototyping new approaches to assess their applicability to Maps-related problems

MS/PhD in Computer Science Statistics Physics Operations Research or similar quantitative domain; (will consider MS with significant related experience)n3 years experience with data analysis at web scale or relevant work experiencenProficient in Python and SQLnStrong communication and presentation skillsnCapable of translating business questions and needs into technical requirements and using statistical techniques to find solutions

Prior industry experience writing Spark/Pyspark for automating analytic tasks at scalenPrior industry experience with AB testingnPrior experience in cloud-based technologies (e.g. AWS)nExperience writing pipelines for automating analytics tasks at scalenDomain-specific knowledge of the mapping/transportation/GIS industry
