Job Summary

TITLE:Financal Manager

LOCATION: Central Office

The Kansas City Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 22000 students and 60 different languages are spoken in the homes of our students. With Head Start/preschools 28 elementary schools 7 middle schools and 5 college and career academies/high schools we are the fifth largest district in the state of Kansas and our student population is approximately 56% Hispanic 24% African American 9% White and 6% Asian. To serve our students the district employs approximately 4000 employees including more than 1800 teachers.

Job Goal:

Assist in the daily operation of the Risk Assessment department by demonstrating sound financial acument in the area of student activity fund support. Performs a variety of daily accounting and compliance related transactions including but not limited to: approval and disbursement of cash receipts check requests journal entries assistance with student fees fundraiser support banking needs & treasurer supervision of the Director of Riskserves as main point of contact for day to day cash management procedures. Facilitates a close working relationship between treasurers & other Central Office departments. Ideal candidate possesses a strong apititude for mathematics is a self-starter flexible team player with excellent interpersonal & communication skills. Must possess comfort with various technology platforms capable of maintaining confidentiality strong problem solving skills and the ability to multi task in a fast paced environment.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Serves as day to day contact for treasurersrelated to student activity funds.
  • Manages cash receipts disbursements transfers sales tax reporting audit documentation & month end reconciliation
  • Conducts student activity related training for new & existing treasurers
  • Acts as substitute treasurer during vacancies to ensure efficient operation of student activity funds meets building needs
  • Coordinates school banking needs and quarterly treasurer meetings
  • Conducts periodic on-site school visits to review treasurer bookkeeping. Maintains ongoingfeedback to Director of Risk.
  • Monitors and escalates compliance related matters to Director of Risk in accordance with standard operating procedures
  • Assists Director of Risk with internal audits
  • Maintains Student Activity Manual
  • Other duties as assigned

COMMUNICATION / ORGANIZATION:

Excellent financial acumen & organizational skills.

Maintains proactive communication between Treasurers & Director of Risk to meet the educational and extra-curricular needs of students.
Utilizes existing technology reporting and accounting systems effectively in the
performance of his or her duties. Performs other related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 6 years financial business or banking degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of and in compliance of Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX)
  • Excellent financial acumen with investigative critical thinking skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Deadline driven. Willingness to put in the extra hours when needed.
  • Strong ability in project management
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel Word & PowerPoint is required.
  • Knowledge of Business Plus & Infinite Campus systems is a plus
  • Flexibility and aptitude for new technology
  • Maintaining a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality is expected of this
  • position

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete
variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.


LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and analyze and interpret general professional journals
technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports general curriculumand learning theories correspondence and protocols. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators staff parents students and the general public.

working relationships with students peers parents and community; ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication.

SALARY: Level 14 - See Classified Salary Schedule

STATUS: EXEMPT
REPORT TO: Director of Risk Assessment
EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in
accordance with the provisions of the Boards policy
on Evaluation of Classified Human Resources
