Summary
Gathers financial information informs patients of alternatives for financial obligation for services and assists indigent parties in obtaining free or financial assistance. Collaborates with other departments offices and application specialists daily. Processes financial assistance applications posts payments creates estimates account reconciliation process and weekly and monthly productivity reports.
Job Duties
- Receives/processes FAP requests according to LVHN policy. Denies approves and pends applications assigning a reason (if applicable).
- Documents all patient accounts accurately with supporting details regarding financial assistance and financial responsibility.
- Maintains comprehensive knowledge of the federal guidelines published by the Department of Health and Human Services to identify and determine patient eligibility for Financial Assistance Program (FAP).
- Ensures all designated patients are screened for Medical Assistance prior to FAP approval.
- Determines patient responsibility on referred accounts. Determines patients ability/inability to pay prior to during or after services are provided.
- Utilizes effective communication skills in interpersonal interaction with patients families physicians fellow employees regarding financial assistance and patient responsibility.
- Meets LVHN Auditing and compliance standards-accuracy for application processing and estimates calculations.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- 3 years Previous experience in a customer-oriented environment patient registration or insurance-related field.
- Ability to anticipate and understand customer financial needs and document and/or relay patients needs to appropriate personnel.
- Ability to interview callers and capture details in an accurate written report.
- Skill in analyzing and organizing technical data.
- Strong client service orientation and influencing skills with hiring managers.

Physical Demands
Lift and carry 25 lbs. frequent sitting/standing frequent keyboard use *patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling bending squatting and performing CPR.
