- While Thermal Fluid experience is preferred mechanical expertise with heater and thermal systems is the key here. #1) Strong mechanical. #2) ISO 9001 expertise. #3) Internal Auditing 4) Welding Inspector (visually doing the weld inspections hands on). Position title: Field Service & Quality Technician
Location: Marietta GA with heavy customer-site and fabrication-vendor travel. Relocation candidates should be considered.
Employment type: Full-time hourly/non-exempt recommended due to field travel and overtime exposure.
This hybrid position combines Sigma Thermal field service execution with project quality inspection responsibilities. The person will commission and troubleshoot process heating systems perform preventative maintenance and FAT support inspect equipment against drawings specifications and ITPs support documentation packages and help reduce warranty/rework exposure by catching issues before equipment ships or before field problems escalate.
- Sigma needs a field-capable technical person who can also operate with a quality mindset around documentation inspection discipline nonconformance tracking and vendor/customer coordination.
- The role should reduce the handoff gap between Service Quality Project Management Fabrication and customers.
- The strongest candidate is not a pure inspector and not only a road technician. The target is a hands-on electrical/mechanical troubleshooter who can inspect document communicate and protect quality outcomes.
Recommended reporting structure: dual-functional role reporting operationally to the Systems Support/Service leadership with a dotted-line quality accountability to the Quality Manager. If Sigma wants the role to be more quality-heavy reverse that structure and give Service a dotted-line relationship.
- Commission new Sigma Thermal equipment at customer sites including startup support system checks customer interface and field documentation.
- Perform preventative maintenance troubleshooting repairs calibrations and field inspections on existing process heating systems.
- Use field equipment such as meters analyzers testers controls tools hand tools and diagnostic equipment to evaluate electrical mechanical and process issues.
- Understand customer processes and how Sigma Thermal equipment integrates with thermodynamics fluid dynamics heat transfer controls piping and combustion/process heating requirements.
- Prepare complete site-visit reports service documentation punch lists findings recommendations and follow-up action items.
- Assist with FATs prior to shipment and support customer acceptance activity as needed.
- Support spare parts opportunities in the field and coordinate parts needs with internal Service/Parts resources.
- Provide customer training internal training support and practical feedback to Engineering Quality Fabrication and Service.
- Review assigned project specifications drawings customer requirements and quality history before inspection or FAT activity.
- Support or develop Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) for assigned projects.
- Inspect Sigma-designed or Sigma-built equipment for compliance with drawings specifications ITPs customer requirements and applicable code expectations.
- Perform or support receiving inspection fabrication inspection electrical/control panel inspection FAT inspection final shipping release and warranty-related quality investigation.
- Ensure project documentation is supplied and organized including applicable ASME AWS CRN CSA customer specifications ITPs manufacturing data books NCRs and related quality records.
- Create and assist with NCRs PARs and OFIs for project nonconformances or process improvement opportunities.
- Coordinate documentation requirements with Project Management fabrication vendors and customer-facing teams.
- Assist with ISO 9001 internal auditing activity when qualified and requested.
- Help minimize field rework and warranty claims due to preventable quality issues.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school military technical training electrical/mechanical training or related industrial training strongly preferred.
- 5 years of industrial field service process heating equipment combustion equipment thermal fluid systems boiler/burner systems industrial controls packaged equipment industrial machinery or similar hands-on technical experience preferred.
- Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings wiring diagrams P&IDs project specifications ITPs and customer requirements.

- Valid drivers license required.

- Electrical/control panel inspection experience.
- Experience with FAT execution final shipping releases manufacturing data books NCR/PAR/OFI systems and customer-facing quality documentation.
- Experience in process heating thermal fluid heaters direct/indirect-fired systems burners combustion systems packaged process equipment pressure equipment industrial ovens boilers or related engineered equipment.
- Ability to operate as a credible technical representative with customers vendors and internal engineering/quality/service teams.
- Ability to stand sit walk climb ladders/stairs use hand tools wire equipment and move safely in fabrication shops customer sites and construction environments.
