Introduction to the job
This is a great opportunity to support our YieldStar metrology system from install to ramp and into HVM sustaining at a new US-based advanced-node customer. Our customer is building its development line at the in Austin Texas with a future high-volume manufacturing location expected elsewhere in this role you will be one of the two initial equipment engineers responsible for the tools performance.
As a Field Service Engineer YieldStar you will install qualify maintain troubleshoot and repair ASML metrology equipment at the customer site. You will work directly with customer engineers line managers and ASML technical teams to keep tools available stable and performing to specification. You will independently execute planned and unplanned maintenance perform diagnostics drive issue resolution and escalate when support is needed. This role requires disciplined operational execution strong technical problem solving and clear ownership of tool performance and customer commitments.
This position is initially based in Austin TX and is expected to transition toward the future HVM location as the customers install base the initial period depending your skill level expect travel to other office locations to learn details around install and maintenance of YieldStar systems. You will report directly to the local Applications Manager who reports into the Head of US CS Applications. Youll be part of the regional network of dedicated YieldStar engineers a network that you share info with and can rely on for support and BKMs.
Role and responsibilities
This role requires clear ownership of customer outcomes disciplined operational execution strong technical skills and strong communication. You will one of the two technical lead equipment engineers at the site and work closely with application engineers customer engineers and management.
The local Applications organization includes Field Applications Engineers supporting EUV DUV YieldStar Control Loops and On-Product performance as well as Field Equipment Engineers supporting YieldStar from Equipment Install to Sustaining.
The full Applications pilot-line team is a team of around 10 people (application engineers and metrology equipment engineers) and there multiple peer equipment engineers on EUV and DUV on site to align ideas with. The team may expand as the install base grows and the HVM site comes online. You executable operational plans on YieldStar and represent the Voice of the Customer toward ASML headquarters support teams.
In the initial phase the team will support the other US fabs to hone their skills on the specific platforms as well as to demonstrate capability and learn on customer specific tools configurations and their purpose.
Once tools are set to arrive in Austin the focus shifts to on-site pilot-line execution. You will drive YieldStar Equipment Engineering support from Install to tool qualification wafer introduction pilot-line performance and sustaining. This requires close alignment with local teams global stakeholders ASML counterparts and the customer to ensure technical execution issue resolution and operational readiness.
Field Service Engineers are ASMLs first line of support and work directly on our machines at customer sites. The job requirements and duties include but are not limited to:
Diagnose and identify root cause and define the action plan for solution
Execute action plans independently; handle most technical problems on your own
Escalate when needed with a clear problem statements and technical communication
Interface regularly with internal & external customers on planning and progress
Adhere to safety requirements including pre-work safety assessments and wearing PPE such as hard-toe shoes bump cap or hard hat respirators harnesses etc.
Hands-on hardware above beneath and around machine incl. ladders & platforms
Properly handle administer and return parts & tools after work completion
Follow back end call handling actions to close all items related to fab actions including paperwork closure parts return fab area cleanup etc
Provide continuous improvement such as defect or failure analysis reports post-mortems procedure updates and opportunities for reducing cycle times and costs
Keep up to date with latest machine changes by continuous learning and training
Education and experience
Bachelors engineering degree or equivalent combination of education skills and experience
Minimum 5 years experience in a Customer Support department for high tech products
Minimum 2 years experience of ASML lithography/metrology system or similar technology
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of pneumatics hydraulics electronics and semiconductor processes and relevant software

Other information
This role will work compressed work week (12hr shifts 7am/pm-7pm/am) alternating 3-4 days/week but may change in future
Work up to 12 hours in a clean room while wearing a cleanroom Gore-Tex suit and PPE
Travel internationally and domestically for training or cross-site support
Training travel will include an initial 2-week training and may also include further training durations of 2-7 weeks in the first year
After 25% travel in first year for training - this role is expected to travel about 10% of the year
Training locations may include Taiwan & the Netherlands
Travel for cross-site support will be based upon business need durations may vary from several days to several weeks
Routinely required to sit; walk; talk; hear; use hands to keyboard finger handle and feel; stoop kneel crouch twist reach and stretch.
Occasionally required to move around the campus
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus
The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds in weight unaided.
The environment generally is moderate in temperature and noise level.
Expect to spend more than 50% of the time inside the clean room working with electromechanical equipment.
This position requires access to controlled technology as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. 730 et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work.
