Job Summary:

As the Fiber Splicing Technician you will ultimately be responsible for splicing testing troubleshooting and repairing fiber optic networks while ensuring high-quality and reliable telecommunications infrastructure. You will perform fiber optic installation testing documentation and maintenance activities while delivering safe efficient and accurate field operations. As the Fiber Splicing Technician your customers are telecommunications providers internal construction teams and project managers and you will make meaningful contributions to the companys success through technical expertise quality workmanship and dependable project execution.

Key Responsibilities (Including but not limited to):

  • Perform end-of-line network testing to verify balanced signal levels and network performance
  • Prepare fiber optic cables by labeling organizing and staging materials for installation
  • Build install and maintain fiber optic cases enclosures tie points and jumper cases
  • Splice color-for-color fiber optic cables and multiple cables within shared enclosures
  • Organize and secure fiber cables within enclosures to ensure proper cable management
  • Seal and secure fiber optic cases and enclosures to protect equipment from environmental conditions
  • Read and interpret splice matrices engineering prints and redline maps to determine fiber routes and assignments
  • Route fibers between trays to optimize cable management and minimize signal loss
  • Connect jumper cables between fiber jumper cases
  • Perform rehabilitation of gel-filled fiber optic enclosures
  • Complete redlining documentation audits and case replacements
  • Troubleshoot fiber optic network issues and perform repairs to restore service
  • Pull fiber optic cable through existing duct packages or conduit manually mechanically or by blowing methods and splice and activate underground and aerial fiber systems
  • Travel weekly to project sites as required
  • Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs

Required Qualifications:

Education Licensing and Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Valid drivers license
  • OSHA 10 Certification required

Experience

  • Experience in fiber optic splicing testing troubleshooting and repair preferred
  • Experience with underground and aerial fiber optic construction preferred
  • Experience reading engineering drawings splice matrices and fiber network documentation preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work including climbing ladders and poles working at heights and working in confined spaces
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints engineering drawings and utility maps
  • Ability to distinguish fiber optic color codes accurately
  • Strong troubleshooting problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to use basic mathematics for measurements and job calculations
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining a safe work environment
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Willingness to travel weekly to support project requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with fiber optic network testing equipment
  • Experience with telecommunications construction
  • Experience performing fiber optic audits and documentation
  • Experience supporting underground and aerial fiber installations

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to maintain visual and audible awareness of surrounding personnel equipment and vehicles
  • Ability to work safely around heavy equipment and machinery
  • Ability to stand walk climb kneel squat bend push pull twist and perform physically demanding work for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety boots hard hats safety glasses and other required safety gear
  • Ability to work at heights on ladders and poles and in confined spaces
