Job Summary

General Summary of Position:

The Department of World Languages and Cultures at the University of Massachusetts Lowell seeks a part-time Adjunct Instructor to teach three sections of Elementary Italian in Spring 2027 or two sections of Elementary Italian with the possibility of a third course on Italian culture taught in English depending on the programs needs. The appointment begins January 10 and ends May 15 2027.

The instructor will teach 3 contact hours per week per section and coordinate with the Italian program on shared syllabi materials and assessment. Sections meet on South Campus on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays. The ideal candidate will enhance the student learning experience by employing a range of effective teaching methods and strategies with an emphasis on communicative language teaching alignment with ACTFL proficiency standards and the creation of an engaging student-centered learning environment.

MinimumQualifications (required):

  • Ph.D. in Italian or a closely related field preferred; ABD and M.A. candidates will be considered.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Italian and English required.
  • Extensive experience teaching Italian language as well as culture in English at the college level.

This is a part-time non-benefited Union of Adjunct Faculty Local 1596 UAW position. For Adjunct Faculty salaries please refer to the Adjunct Faculty salary chart for the rates.
