Position Summary:

St. Andrews seeks a general maintenance mechanic. They will carry out preventative maintenance and repairs for assigned structures systems and equipment to help ensure the school is in proper and safe working order.

Under general supervision the maintenance mechanic will perform a variety of general maintenance which includes plumbing electrical HVAC and/or restoration activities in one or more of the traditional trades fields. They will be trained on how to operate campus heavy equipment such as loaders tractors and excavators.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs routine and emergency maintenance and repairs throughout the campus facilities.
  • Interprets prioritizes and completes work orders as assigned.
  • Uses various hand and power tools to securely build assigned projects and is responsible for the safekeeping of these tools and equipment.
  • Ensures the accuracy of work by checking completed projects and correcting problems as needed.
  • Adheres to local building and safety codes and guidelines.
  • Performs routine repairs and preventative maintenance to campus electrical mechanical plumbing and HVAC systems.
  • Follows safe working practices at all times and requests additional personnel or equipment when a task requires it.
  • Plans repair work using buildings blueprints or equipment manual as needed.
  • Performs general repairs that do not require a specialized technician. Examples may include repairing drywall painting and repairing doors and other building fixtures.
  • Assists when needed with the upkeep of the campus grounds athletic fields housekeeping and set-ups and teardowns.
  • May load trucks and feed bins with various aggregate material while maintaining proper quantities of materials to be loaded. May move earth or other material from one location to another. May perform paving/grading work.
  • Ensures that safety compliance and environmental requirements are followed at all times.
  • Communicates effectively professionally and clearly with the entire school community (faculty staff parents students visitors and outside vendors).
  • Works closely with the department supervisors to communicate address and solve any concerns issues or priorities that may arise during the performance of duties.
  • Contributes positively to team morale by maintaining a positive pleasant demeanor.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Facilities Director or his designee.


Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as work requests instructions drawings schematics and procedures.
  • Basic computer and typing skills are required.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three years of general building maintenance experience preferred.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Be able to occasionally lift up to 75 lbs. while using proper lifting techniques.
  • Ability to work in a wide variety of environments as found in all areas of the school.
  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors sometimes during extreme weather conditions.
  • Works above ground level and on roofs requiring the ability to safely climb ladders stairs and scaffolds.
  • Bends stoops kneels and walks significant distances between and within buildings on campus.
