Under direct supervision working on the Exhibitions Production team the Exhibitions Preparator I will assist with the fabrication assembly installation dismantling and/or moving of exhibit properties.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist with fabrication assembly installation dismantling and/or moving of exhibit properties.
  2. Clean maintain and repair existing exhibits and displays as needed.
  3. Mount and dismount artifacts for exhibitions
  4. Build prototypes samples and models to support exhibit development and production
  5. Other appropriate duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications

  1. A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A bachelors degree in Fine Arts or Sculpture formal training in a related field or equivalent relevant experience is preferred.
  2. At least two years of work experience in a museum industrial shop or fine gallery is preferred.
  3. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment.
  4. Must demonstrate manual dexterity.
  5. Proficient in the use of shop tools equipment and carpentry techniques.
  6. Demonstrated experience in woodworking welding or replication.

Working Conditions

  • This position involves standing and walking throughout the workday while performing exhibit-related duties.
  • This position requires the completion/passing of the pulmonary function exam and respirator test (post-employment offer prior to start date)

Supervision Received:

Receives general supervision by the Production Supervisor/Manager and Production Director.

Supervision Exercised:

The position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Work Hours and Shift:

35 hours per week. Hours: 8:30am - 4:30pm with occasional before after or weekend hours required. Typically scheduled in advance.
