About the Executive Director

The Executive Director is a critical leadership position reporting directly to the board and overseeing four direct reports. The Executive Director functions as a ministry CEO providing strategic leadership fostering a healthy culture managing finances engaging with the missions community and leading fundraising efforts. The position requires emotional intelligence humility strong relational skills and a passion for serving global workers. While the Executive Director is not expected to be a counselor they must deeply understand the counseling model and integrate the organizations faith-based perspective without imposing theological agendas.

Key expectations for the Executive Director include raising funds for operational and field support executing initiatives with follow-through representing Valeo publicly and serving as a shepherd for directors. The ideal candidate has senior nonprofit management experience a track record in fundraising familiarity and deep passion for global missions work and an appreciation for telehealth and mental health services. The Executive Director will work primarily in Columbia SC and is responsible for sustaining organizational health supporting growth and advancing Valeos mission of empowering global workers to thrive.

The Executive Directors responsibilities include:

Strategic Leadership

• Provide vision and direction for the organization in alignment with Valeos mission vision and core values.
• Ensure the organization operates efficiently and effectively maintaining focus on long-term goals.
• Collaborate with the board on governance policy and mission execution.

Fundraising & Donor Development

• Cultivate and grow the donor base to support operational needs and on-field initiatives.
• Develop and implement a robust fundraising strategy including donor engagement and stewardship.
• Ensure follow-through on fundraising commitments and initiatives.

Financial Management

• Oversee budgeting financial planning and reporting.
• Ensure sustainable financial practices to support staff programs and organizational growth.

Team Leadership & Culture

• Foster a healthy relational and collaborative work environment.
• Supervise and support four direct reports providing guidance mentorship and accountability.
• Serve as a shepherding figure for staff maintaining engagement and morale.
• Bridge communication and connection with remote staff to prevent isolation.

Missions Community Engagement

• Serve as a public representative and spokesperson for Valeo at conferences partner events and in broader missions networks.
• Advocate for the needs of global workers and their families.

Program & Service Oversight

• Ensure core services (counseling psychiatry retreats intensives telehealth) maintain high quality and consistency.
• Support innovation and potential expansion such as on-field visits or support groups.

Decision-Making & Stewardship

• Maintain a balance between stewardship of existing programs and careful growth-focused innovation.
• Act as a final decision-maker for organizational alignment and judgment calls.

What you bring

Education and Experience

• Bachelors degree preferred; advanced degree preferred (e.g. Nonprofit Management Business Administration).
• 35 years in senior nonprofit leadership ideally with fundraising experience.
• Familiarity with mission work and appreciation for counseling/mental health services.
• Proven ability to lead teams work with boards and foster healthy organizational culture.
