SUMMARY
The Executive Director Regional Operations serves as the operational leader and strategic partner to the Regional Vice President driving performance improvement operational excellence and growth across a portfolio of ophthalmology practices. This executive-level role provides hands-on leadership to markets requiring operational stabilization leadership support performance acceleration or strategic transformation.
The ideal candidate is a highly accomplished healthcare operations executive with extensive multi-site practice management experience strong financial acumen and a proven ability to lead through influence ambiguity and change while delivering measurable business results.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the primary operational partner to the Regional Vice President across assigned markets.
- Lead operational assessments to identify performance gaps opportunities and risks.
- Develop and execute market-specific action plans that drive sustainable operational and financial improvement.
- Provide executive leadership and stabilization support for underperforming practices and markets.
- Ensure consistent execution of organizational priorities operational standards and strategic initiatives.
- Monitor key performance metrics and proactively address operational challenges before they impact results.
- Function as interim operational leadership during leadership transitions when necessary.
- Leverage operational and financial data to identify opportunities remove barriers and improve overall business performance related to revenue growth EBITDA labor productivity expense management and utilization.
- Build leadership capability throughout the region by coaching developing and recruiting high performing teams. Promoting a culture of operational excellence collaboration and continuous improvement
- Collaborate effectively with corporate and regional functional teams including Finance HR Marketing Managed Care RCM Supply Chain IT and Contact Center Operations.
- Lead and support regional initiatives related to:
- New physician onboarding and productivity ramp-up
- Referral growth and optimization
- Patient access improvement
- Capacity planning and utilization
- Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) performance
- Retina and glaucoma service line growth
- Interventional ophthalmology adoption
- Drug utilization optimization
- Patient recall and reactivation programs
- Acquisition due diligence
- Post-acquisition integration
- Market expansion and growth strategies
- Deployment of operational best practices
QUALIFICATIONS
- Significant multi-site physician practice management experience.
- Ability to travel extensively throughout the assigned region (6075%).
- Demonstrated success leading turnaround recovery and performance-improvement initiatives.
- Strong financial operational and analytical skills.
- Proven ability to influence physician leaders and build collaborative partnerships.
- Experience leading organizations through change growth and transformation.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Bachelors degree in Healthcare Administration Business Administration or related field.
- MBA MHA or related advanced degree.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive healthcare operations leadership experience.
- Ophthalmology practice management experience.
- Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) operations experience.
- Retina glaucoma or other surgical specialty experience.
- Experience within a private equity-backed healthcare organization.
- Mergers and acquisitions integration experience.
- Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement training.
- Advanced data analytics and performance management expertise.
