The Estate & Trust Attorney will join a highly regarded Trusts & Estates practice advising high-net-worth individuals multi-generational families business owners fiduciaries and charitable organizations. This role blends sophisticated estate planning wealth transfer strategy tax analysis and estate administration with strategic coordination alongside estate litigation attorneys when adversarial dynamics may arise.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge of federal and state tax law experience structuring advanced estate planning vehicles and the ability to navigate complex family and asset structures with discretion and judgment.
- Design and implement sophisticated estate plans including wills revocable and irrevocable trusts GRATs dynasty trusts SLATs ILITs charitable trusts and other advanced wealth transfer structures
- Advise clients on estate gift and generation-skipping transfer tax planning strategies
- Structure and implement lifetime gifting programs and intergenerational transfers
- Provide family business succession planning and continuity strategies
- Counsel clients on asset protection planning and retirement-related planning
- Draft powers of attorney healthcare proxies guardianship designations and disability planning documents
- Handle estate administration matters including Surrogates Court proceedings and estate accountings
- Coordinate with tax professionals on estate and gift tax returns and related filings
- Represent clients before the IRS and in tax-related proceedings where necessary
- Collaborate with Estates Litigation attorneys to proactively identify and mitigate potential disputes
- Active membership in good standing with the New York State Bar
- 5 years of experience in trusts and estates planning and administration
- Strong drafting experience with advanced estate planning instruments
- Knowledge of federal and New York estate and gift tax law
- Experience advising high-net-worth individuals and closely held business owners
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage sensitive family dynamics
- LLM in Taxation preferred but not required
