Job Duties
The lead-level epidemiologist or epidemiology program supervisor is responsible
for overseeing managing coordinating and/or supervising the work of
epidemiologists and associated staff in conducting professional epidemiologic
activities. Positions in this role function as experts within their assigned area of
responsibility such as education and training surveillance and/or data analysis.
Positions in this role perform work of considerable difficulty to include interpreting
program policies and procedures training staff and monitoring and reviewing data
collection for accuracy. Positions in this role may provide program information to
health care providers and laboratory personnel to evaluate case reporting to
recommend appropriate control and prevention methods. Positions in this role may
maintain a portion of a statewide surveillance system for the detection and
reporting of one or more reportable conditions. Positions in this role work under the
limited supervision of a program area manager or similar position while receiving
guidance in the form of general goals to be accomplished and broad program
policy. May be responsible for managing a statewide program working with
partners to evaluate the program(s) improve delivery of services and develop
policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of the cause transmission treatment and prevention of communicable and other conditions of public health importance.
Considerable knowledge of methods of public health surveillance and disease outbreak investigations.
Considerable knowledge of federal and state laws regulations and policies regarding the reporting and control of disease.
Working knowledge of biostatistics computer data analysis and data management techniques.
Demonstrated ability to develop program goals and objectives and to evaluate program effectiveness.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Demonstrated ability to collect quality assure analyze and present statistical data.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with health care professionals and the general public.
Experience in epidemiology public health or a related area.
Additional Considerations
Training/experience in public health epidemiology or biostatistics or equivalent combination of education training and/or experience.
Demonstrated ability to lead and direct the work of others either in a supervisory or project management capacity.
Basic knowledge of statistical software packages
