Environmental Remediation Systems Technician III

Essential Job Duties

• Analyzes adjusts and operates equipment and system components associated with a high reliability operation of groundwater Pump & Treat Systems including both the equipment in the P&T buildings and the associated well
  fields.
• Performs various activities on environmental remediation systems including but not limited to soil gas extraction groundwater pump and treat and in situ bioremediation systems under general supervision.
• Operates defined troubleshoots and optimizes filter press granular activated carbon (GAC) vessels including those on soil gas extraction systems influent stabilization tanks (Chrome Influent High Explosives (HE) Influent) effluent
  stabilization tank ancillary pumps piping and components (flow meters SKALAR in-line chromium/boron analyzer photo-ionization detectors pH meters level indicators valves actuators etc.) under general supervision.
• Participates in job planning and procedure development to identify hazards and controls.
• Interprets environmental remediation systems operational data including output from Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system and notifies appropriate supervisory personnel with complex problems.
• Assists technical personnel as requested.
• Responsible for the maintenance of accurate records.
• Must be able to work alone or with others as the job requires.
• Responsible for the safe operation and proper care of materials tools and equipment.
• Evaluates performance and condition of equipment by reviewing data performing operational checks and observing equipment. Reports operating difficulties as they occur initiates necessary corrective action to maintainoperation.
• Performs daily cleaning and other tasks as needed on environmental remediation systems as requested or assigned.

• Responsible for maintaining a thorough knowledge of applicable Federal State Department of Energy (DOE) Corporate and Plant rules regulations and Plant-wide operating policies procedures and Labor Agreements.
• Required to attend and/or successfully complete training classes and as appropriate become certified and/or knowledgeable in the safe handling of hazardous waste chemicals substances and materials as determined by Training and Development Technologies Department through General Employee Training (reference DOE order 426.2) and management.
• Understands a workers right to stop work when they feel their own safety or the safety of other personnel is jeopardized.
• Attends all required safety meetings and training and offers suggestions on improvements to the work environment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Work is authorized to stop work when they feel their own safety safety of other personnel or operational envelope is jeopardized.
• Under off normal situations such as possible imminent environmental release or critical subsystem failure workeris authorized to transition operation to a safe stable configuration if trained and qualified to do so.
• Worker does not have supervisory delegator or procurement authority
• Overall work planning prioritization and execution are referred to supervisor. This includes
  • Staffing and work assignments
  • Policy and procedural changes
  • System repair and modifications
  • Purchasing and contractual commitments
  • Final review and approval of operating records and reports

Instrument Mechanic

• Must be proficient in the installation repair calibration modification and adjustment of indicating recording regulating and controlling of instruments gages and transmitters (electronic electrical and pneumatic) involving process instrumentation such as temperature flow pressure strain liquid level vacuum and humidity applications.
• Inspects gages and meters used to indicate conditions such as temperature pressure vacuum humidity water flow and volume and fuel volume and consumption and records abnormal or erratic fluctuations.
• Installs and repairs tubing on instrument control systems.
• Evaluates wear and obsolescence of defective instruments and determines if they warrant repair.
• Repairs and adjusts instruments clocks electric and mechanical relief and pop valves.
• Repairs motor-operated control valves.
• Must have a basic knowledge of the physical laws involving pressure temperature humidity hydraulics levers and electricity.
• Must be proficient at reading prints sketches electrical diagrams and schematics of pneumatic fluidic electrical and electronic control circuits for the fabrication installation modification and troubleshooting work required of
  this craft.
• Ensures accurate and efficient replacement of parts and makes repairs and/or adjustments to equipment installations and/or fixtures.
• Responsible for the maintenance of accurate records.
• Requires strict adherence to electrical safe work practices and other Safety Fire and Security regulations.
• Responsible for accurate interpretation of drawings and instructions.

Skills and Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivelant.

Education

• Completion of high school with at least 1 year of specific documented experience with environmental remediation systems or 2 years experience as a Utility Operator from the highest level of required security clearance or a combination of experience and education courses acceptable to the hiring manager.
