Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

Nature of Work

Thefundamental reason this classification exists is to perform advanced technicalengineering inspections and supervisory work in the field and office. Employeesdirect and oversee the inspection of construction projects by privatecontractors involving city rights-of-way streets subdivision and storm watersystem and are responsible for environmental groundwater and stormwatersampling for the City of Montgomery. The work responsibilities involvesupervising fulltime employees reviewing plans and conducting detailedinspections of construction projects such as subdivisions drainage systemsbridges and other public works structures to ensure compliance with safetycodes specifications and regulatory standards. Work involves administeringand monitoring stormwater floodplain and environmental programs;investigating unlawful discharges; evaluating erosion and sediment control; andmaintaining compliance with federal state and local requirements includingADEM and FAA regulations. The employee reports directly to the PrincipalEngineer.

Minimum Qualifications

Highschool diploma or a GED and at least six (6) years of engineering experience includingreviewing construction site plans and the inspection of construction sites orenvironmental groundwater/ water sampling including two (2) years experiencesupervising lower-level Engineering Technicians.

NOTE: Qualifying education training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Must have andmaintain a valid Drivers License and insurable driving record as needed tooperate a city vehicle to travel to various job sites. Must be willing to work nights or weekendsas needed to meet deadlines or prepare and complete special projects.

WORKINGCONDITIONS: Workis performed predominately outside and includes exposure to extremes in weatherconditions noise noxious odors and fumes hazardous traffic and constructionsite conditions. The work may also involve difficult interpersonal contacts andoccasional irregular hours.

Kind of Examination
