Salary Information
Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

Nature of Work
The fundamentalreason this classification exists is to perform technical engineering work inthe field and office. Thisclassification is responsible for environmental ground water and storm watersampling for the City of Montgomery. Themajor work responsibilities may include: monitoring ground water wells; monitoring permanent storm water sites;monitoring methane gas wells; investigating unlawful discharges to the stormwater system; inspecting construction site erosion and sedimentation controlmeasures and industrial facilities; preparing reports for ground water stormwater methane gas and unlawful discharges; serving as an environmentaleducational coordinator; performingdemolition coordination duties; and supervising two or more full-timeemployees. Incumbents of thisclassification work within a framework of established procedures and areexpected to perform all the duties assigned to the position with onlyoccasional instructions or Engineering Technician III is distinguished from the EngineeringTechnician II by the increased complexity of assignments decision-makingresponsibility and level of supervision received and exercised by theTechnician III classification. Familiarassignments are received with general instructions while new work is performedunder supervision of the Assistant City Engineer and City Engineer.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or G.E.D. andfive (5) years of experience in environmental ground water or storm watersampling. BA in Biology ChemistryEnvironmental Science or closely related degree may substitute for requiredexperience on a year-for-year basis.

Special Requirements
Must have and maintain a valid Drivers Licenseand insurable driving record as needed to operate a City vehicle to travel tovarious job sites. Must be willing towork nights or weekends as needed to meet deadlines or prepare and completespecial projects.
Kind of Examination
Applications are being accepted to fill current one (1) vacancy and any other vacancies that may occur during the life of the register. The current vacancy is with the
City of Montgomery Engineering Department. Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and supplemental questionnaire. For this reason applicants are urged to fill in the application form and supplemental questionnaire completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held the dates they held them where and exactly what their duties were. If more than five qualified applications are received a selection procedure will be administered to rank applicants on the register. Tied scores will not be broken. If there are five or less qualified applicants they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
