Overview

SUNY Onondaga Community College located in Syracuse NY is currently recruiting for an Engineering Science and Technology Technical Specialist

The Engineering Science and Technology Technical Specialist is primarily responsible for maintaining and supporting the classroom lab spaces for the electromechanical technology program including the Cleanroom Simulation Lab. This role ensures the smooth operation of these key labs while also providing support for other labs such as mechanical technology machine tool labs welding labs and electrical technology labs as needed. The Lab Technician will work closely with faculty staff and students to provide a safe and effective learning environment.

Responsibilities

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Lab Maintenance and Setup:

  • Maintain and organize lab equipment and supplies.
  • Set up and prepare lab spaces for classes and demonstrations.
  • Ensure all lab equipment is in proper working condition and perform routine maintenance.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Enforce safety protocols and procedures in all lab spaces.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and address any hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.

Technical Support:

  • Provide technical support to faculty and students during lab sessions.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolving technical issues with lab equipment.
  • Train students and staff on the proper use of lab equipment and safety procedures.

Inventory Management:

  • Monitor and manage inventory of lab supplies and equipment.
  • Order and restock supplies as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory and equipment usage.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with faculty to support curriculum development and lab activities.
  • Communicate effectively with faculty staff and students regarding lab schedules and requirements.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Special Projects:

  • Assist with special projects and initiatives related to lab development and enhancement.
  • Support the implementation of new technologies and equipment in the labs.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with industry trends and best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor within scope of job responsibilities.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates degree in a related field from an accredited college university or foreign equivalency or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in maintaining and supporting lab environments.
  • Knowledge of mechanical electromechanical and electrical technology.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in a related field from an accredited college university or foreign equivalency.
  • Experience in an educational setting.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and compliance standards.
  • Proficiency in using and maintaining lab equipment.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish. English and other languages will be considered.

Additional Information:

CSEA (Civil Service) position grade 7 anticipated salary is $ is a non-tested position. Person hired for the position must meet the minimum qualifications listed here as this hire is approved through Onondaga County Civil Service.
