About the Engineering Design Division:

The Engineering Design Division (EDD) is an academic unit within the Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science and runs the colleges first-year engineering program. The program has over 300 first-year students who take four engineering courses taught by EDD faculty: Introduction to Engineering Design and Engineering Communications I in the fall semester; and Introduction to Engineering Analysis and Engineering Communications II in the spring semester. The Engineering Communication courses are project-based and students write reports and give presentations about their projects. Engineering communications teamwork and project management are a central focus of the projects. Instruction in technical writing oral presentations and research methods is provided. Technical instruction to aid with the projects and help students choose an engineering major is provided in the Introduction to Engineering Design and Analysis courses. Job Description:

The Engineering Communications Lecturer is focused on teaching our first-year engineering students the necessary oral and written communication skills teamwork attributes and professional conduct to be successful in their engineering major and career. Under the general supervision of the EDD Director and Engineering Communications Coordinator the Lecturer executes the instructional plans in the Engineering Communications I & II courses and coordinates with the Introduction to Engineering Design and Analysis course instructors to provide our first-year engineering students a well-rounded foundation for successful engineering careers. The Lecturer is expected to start on either January 1st 2027 for the Spring semester or August 16th 2027 for the Fall semester.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Lecturer will review the instructional material prior to teaching each class and attend weekly instructional preparation sessions led by the Engineering Communications Coordinator. The Lecturer teaches eleven (11) sections of the 2-credit engineering communication courses per academic year with no more than six (6) sections in any one semester. Additionally the Lecturer teaches the 1-credit Foundations of Pedagogy and Mentorship course during the fall and spring semesters resulting in a total of 24 credits taught per academic year.

In addition to teaching the Lecturer also:

• supervises undergraduate course assistants
• holds office hours
• grades assignments
• advises students
• attends mandatory training sessions and EDD meetings
• participates in service work for the EDD Watson College and/or the University and
• may advise Binghamton University student organizations.

This is a ten-month non-tenure track full-time lecturer position renewable on a 3-year cycle.

Required Qualifications:

• A masters degree.
• Experience working successfully in a team environment.
• Oral and written communication skills.
• Organizational and computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A doctoral degree in engineering or education.
• Experience in teaching technical communications.
• Experience in teaching teamwork.
• Experience advising and mentoring students.
