GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Join the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) as an Engineer I in Lander Wyoming and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our states transportation system! This position is based in Lander Wyoming a historic community that began as a military post known as Camp Augar and served as a key point for immigrants traveling through South Pass. Nestled in the foothills of the Wind River Mountains Lander offers exceptional natural beauty and a wide variety of outdoor recreational opportunities including fishing hunting camping ATV riding rock climbing hiking snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

With minimal oversight develops refines and reviews horizontal and vertical alignments
With minimal oversight establishes the dimensions and geometry of roadway cross-sectional elements to determine and refine excavation embankment and haul quantities for roadway construction
Uses Microstation and other software packages to design and detail other roadway features such as guardrail installations culverts storm sewer drainage structures utility and right-of-way impacts
Follows applicable State Federal and Agency design policies and procedures
With minimal oversight calculates pay quantities for the materials used to construct roadways and prepares spreadsheets summarizing these quantities
Attends periodic workshops to increase skills and knowledge and train others in new methods and procedures
With minimal oversight issues intermediate plan sets and attends inspections

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of calculus geometry algebra and trigonometry
Knowledge of highway engineering concepts and principles
Knowledge of the WYDOT project/plan development procedures and project flow charts
Skill in technical writing
Skill in communication and time management
Skill in the use of computer applications for office automation
Ability to write reports and specifications
Ability to produce engineering plans and develop cost estimates in a timely manner

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelors Degree (in Engineering)

Experience:

0-2 years of progressive work experience (in Engineering)

Certificates Licenses Registrations:

Some agencies may require a certificate of registration from the Board of Engineering.

Qualifying eligibility and criteria for the hiring bonus
- Temporary employees accepting a full-time position
- Acceptance of a permanent full-time non-exempt/exempt position posted for public recruitment
- Current employees accepting a promotional opportunity - recruitment must have been opened to the public
- One year of service to WYDOT must be completed failure to complete this requirement will forfeit the hiring incentive and funds will be recouped from final pay.
- Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date.
- Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.
- If the employee elects to downgrade through an active recruitment and/or appointment during the twelve (12) month period they would be required to pay the bonus back.
