Essential Job Duties

Performs a variety of duties in assisting technical personnel peers engineers and management on various production support research and development projects. Typical general functions of this classification include:

  • Checks equipment for proper operation condition and calibration
  • Assists and works with other Engineering Technicians of all levels in the familiarization and performance of processes techniques and procedures within their related areas
  • Adheres to operating procedures and other operating standards with a high degree of accuracy with particular emphasis on those pertaining to safety & security
  • Produces legible correct and accurate records inspections and analysis
  • Develops and assists in developing new and improved inspection methods to increase safety and productivity as well as performs proper housekeeping duties
  • Makes observations and reports unusual occurrences or events that may affect safety quality or understanding of experiments or operations
  • Demonstrates the ability to methodically perform tasks and assigned functions
  • Ensures that operations are conducted according to all applicable environmental safety health and management requirements
  • Assists professional staff with the training of other Engineering Technicians as assigned
  • Responsible for maintaining a knowledge of applicable Federal State DOE corporate and plant rules regulations Labor Agreements and plant-wide operating policies and procedures

Advanced Fabrication Facility Inspectors:

  • Must be able to perform shop floor programing able to write programs on non-critical components as needed to adhere to drawing specifications.
  • Must be able to validate manufactured component specifications via open set-up programming hand measurements visual analysis and/or go/no-go gauges.
  • Execute Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) programs using PC-DMIS software to perform dimensional inspections of parts and/or assemblies.
  • Collaborate with engineers and production team to continuously improve the inspection process and reduce defects.
  • Validate and support optimization of CMM programs using PC-DMIS software
  • Must be able to understand and interpret geometrical dimensional and tolerancing (GD&T) callouts as well as marking instructions for manufactured components.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspection results and generated reports.
  • Conduct in-process and final inspections to ensure adherence to drawing specifications.
  • Works from sketches assembly drawings and detailed procedures to perform inspection operations
  • Must be able to support CMM programmer in the setup of new routines including validation of new and/or existing CMM programs and provide the necessary feedback to improve and optimize inspection routines
  • Inspects and assembles experimental devices requiring complicated setups with a high degree of accuracy using a variety of precision measuring instruments
  • Sets up and operates CMMs to inspect inert components to required specific geometry and tolerances
  • Must be able to work with metric or English dimensions
  • Must be able to perform component disposition based on inspection results

Skills and Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience operating CMM equipment able to perform shop floor programming using PC DMIS inspection techniques and familiarization with PC-DMIS software and/or PC-DMIS certifications manufacturing background preferred.

OR

  • Must have an Associates Degree in Applied Science in an Engineering or Engineering Technology technical field.

OR

  • Any combination of the above experience satisfactory to line management in the performance of work as stated in the functions and responsibilities of this job description.



Education

High School diploma or General Equivalency Development (GED)

DOE Order 426.2A Requirements

In addition to the above requirements the applicant must also meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e. High School diploma or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE O 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following the interim newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2A)

  • Ability to perform safety-sensitive duties

Notes

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
Requires Human Reliability Program (HRP) certification. If the successful candidate is not currently certified in the HRP the certification process will be initiated upon assumption of the position. If the successful candidate is currently certified in the HRP a review for HRP certification in the appropriate category will be performed by the hiring manager and the HRP Management Official and the certification process in the appropriate category will be initiated upon assumption of the position
