JOB DESCRIPTION ELEMENTARY SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER

Qualifications:

1. Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or the ability to obtain

2. Endorsement in Learning Disabled Cognitive Impairments and/or EmotionallyImpaired preferred

3. Good written and verbal communication skills

4. Have demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others

5. Have demonstrated ability to work effectively under the direction of others


Reports to: Building Principal and Special Education Director


Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Must be able to record analyze and maintain student data in a timely manner
  2. Have the ability to effectively instruct children diagnosed with a disability not only limited to a specific learning disability cognitive impairment emotionally impaired other-health impaired autism spectrum disorder or hearing impaired
  3. Demonstrate an ability to provide small group and individual services to all levels of student ability
  4. Ability to deliver specialized instruction in a differentiated capacity based on the needs of the students in the classroom- including academic social-emotional and behavioral needs
  5. Maintain necessary documentation of student performance through regular progress monitoring
  6. Participate regularly on teams to analyze student- and building-level data resolve problems and select evidence-based interventions and supports
  7. Develop and implement comprehensive Individualized Education Programs
  8. Robust experience and ability to collaborate with other school staff to develop positive behavioral intervention plans for students
  9. Ability to develop effective interpersonal and collaborative relationships with school aged children staff and parents
  10. Ability to effectively co-teach with general education teachers & also provide direct instruction to individual/small groups
  11. Provide direction and guidance to classroom personal and/or LRE aides
  12. Comprehensive understanding of Michigan Common Core Standards
  13. Proficient in a variety of web-based programs and ability to effectively utilize technology
  14. Proficient in the implementation of PBIS and TCI techniques to promote positive classroom culture and climate
  15. Demonstrated expertise in managing intensive and complex student behaviors through the application of proactive evidence-based strategies. Maintains a calm regulated and professional demeanor in high-stress situations with a clear understanding that behavior serves as a form of communication and is often directly connected to a students disability.
  16. Skilled in interpreting behavioral cues de-escalating crisis situations and implementing individualized supports that prioritize student dignity safety and access to learning.
  17. Committed to a trauma-informed and student-centered approach that emphasizes relationship-building consistency and the development of replacement skills.
  18. All other duties as assigned

Reports To: Building Principal

Salary: $47877 - $88689 based on experience and degree

Length of Contract: 185 days

Start Date: August 24 2026 There may be new hire meetings to attend as well on August 20th and 21st
