Elementary School Drama Teacher
Position Type: Full-Time (Stanley Elementary)
Waltham Public Schools is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Elementary Drama Teacher to join the Fine and Performing Arts Department. The successful candidate will provide standards-based drama instruction that promotes creativity collaboration communication storytelling movement and performance skills in a supportive and inclusive elementary classroom environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to working with young learners and fostering student engagement through theater arts experiences that support social-emotional development creativity and student voice.
- Plan and deliver engaging standards-based drama instruction for elementary students
- Teach foundational theater skills including creative movement acting improvisation storytelling voice character development and ensemble participation
- Create a positive inclusive and well-managed classroom environment
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
- Assess student progress using a variety of performance-based and classroom-based measures
- Provide opportunities for students to develop confidence creativity communication and collaboration skills through drama
- Maintain classroom materials props costumes scripts and instructional resources
- Collaborate with classroom teachers specialists and colleagues within the Fine and Performing Arts Department
- Support school-wide performances assemblies and arts integration opportunities as appropriate
- Bachelors degree in Theatre Education Drama Theatre Arts Performing Arts Elementary Education or related field
- Valid Massachusetts teaching license in Theatre/Drama or appropriate related licensure
- Demonstrated knowledge of elementary drama instruction and child development
- Strong classroom management communication and organizational skills
- Commitment to culturally responsive and inclusive teaching practices
- Prior experience teaching drama or theater at the elementary or middle school level
- Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse students
- Experience facilitating student performances creative dramatics or theater activities
- Ability to build strong relationships with students and foster a collaborative classroom culture
- Experience integrating SEL practices and arts-based learning strategies into instruction
