Job Summary

Summary of Position 

The Electronic Resources and Outreach (ERO) Librarian manages the lifecycle of Lindell Librarys electronic resources and creates metadata and cataloging records for library resources in all formats. The ERO Librarian negotiates purchasing terms with suppliers and compiles usage data to assist with ongoing assessment of the librarys collections. This position is responsible for cataloging including some original cataloging and classification of the physical collection and also serves as the librarys official liaison to the Schwartz School of the Arts. The ERO Librarian establishes and maintains positive working relationships with supervisors colleagues and subordinates throughout Lindell Library Augsburg University and the broader academic library community. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage the full lifecycle of the librarys electronic resources including acquisitions licensing assessment and renewal/cancellation. 
  • Implement and maintain an electronic resources management (ERM) system. 
  • Serves as liaison to one or more academic departments and develops strong working relationships with faculty students and staff in assigned units. 
  • Provide in-depth reference services and consultations to individuals and groups and teach instruction sessions in designated subject areas. 
  • Generate usage reports and share them with library staff to inform renewal considerations. 
  • Create metadata apply appropriate schema and create documentation for digital objects and initiatives. 
  • Identify prioritize and implement cataloging and metadata projects for resources in all formats including weeding and reclassification.
  • Create and maintain appropriate research guides. 
  • Develop and maintain collections to support the research teaching and learning needs of library users.
  • Support the librarys participation in regional and national cooperatives such as Minitex and MnPALS. 
  • Support library leadership in monitoring the library materials budget. 

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform original cataloging as needed and collaborate with the Technical Services Coordinator to ensure copy cataloging records are accurately uploaded.
  • Closely monitor usage of streaming video platforms and recommend cost-effective alternatives when possible. 
  • Participate in collection management projects as needed. 
  • Maintain knowledge of current and emerging developments and technologies in electronic resources management. 
  • Keeps abreast of current and evolving metadata and cataloging standards. 
  • Other duties as apparent or assigned by supervisor(s). 

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Typical work environment is an office. Sedentary work for long periods of time. 
  • Regular computer and phone use. 
  • Occasional lifting or carrying items up to 20 lbs.

Qualifications :

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters degree from an ALA-accredited institution at date of hire. 
  • Two (2) or more years of professional experience in electronic resource management. 
  • Familiarity with metadata and cataloging protocols such as MARC RDA or Dublin Core. 
  • Demonstrated experience serving users from diverse socioeconomic cultural and/or academic backgrounds. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three (3) or more years of electronic resource management experience and/or two (2) or more years of research and outreach experience.
  • Alma Administration Certification and/or proficiency with OCLC WorldCat/Connexion cataloging.

Compensation & Benefits at Augsburg

  • The compensation range is $58000 to $62000 annually DOQ.
