Position Summary
The Electrical Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating the daily activities of electrical maintenance personnel supporting underground mining surface mining mineral processing and production operations. This role provides direct supervision of electricians instrumentation technicians and electrical contractors while ensuring the safe reliable and efficient operation of electrical systems and equipment throughout the facility.
The Electrical Supervisor is responsible for workforce leadership maintenance planning equipment reliability regulatory compliance and continuous improvement initiatives that support operational excellence and production goals.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision
- Directly supervise and lead a team of Industrial Electricians Instrumentation Technicians and electrical contractors.
- Assign daily work activities and establish maintenance priorities based on operational needs.
- Provide coaching mentoring and performance management for electrical maintenance personnel.
- Conduct employee evaluations development planning and skills assessments.
- Promote a culture of accountability teamwork safety and continuous improvement.
Electrical Maintenance Operations
- Oversee troubleshooting repair installation and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment.
- Ensure timely response to electrical breakdowns and emergency maintenance situations.
- Coordinate preventive predictive and corrective maintenance activities.
- Monitor work quality and ensure adherence to established maintenance standards.
Equipment & Systems Oversight
Provide supervision and technical support for:
- Medium and high-voltage electrical systems
- Substations and switchgear
- Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
- Transformers
- VFDs and soft starters
- PLC and SCADA systems
- Instrumentation and process controls
- Conveyors and material handling systems
- Crushers and processing equipment
- Pumps ventilation systems and hoists
- Mobile mining equipment
Planning & Scheduling
- Partner with Maintenance Planners and Operations teams to develop weekly and shutdown maintenance schedules.
- Review work orders labor utilization and maintenance backlog activities.
- Ensure adequate staffing and resource allocation to support operational requirements.
- Assist in developing maintenance budgets and forecasting labor and material needs.
Reliability & Continuous Improvement
- Support reliability initiatives designed to improve equipment performance and reduce downtime.
- Participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations.
- Monitor equipment performance metrics and recommend corrective actions.
- Identify opportunities to improve maintenance efficiency productivity and equipment life cycles.
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with:
- MSHA regulations
- NFPA standards
- National Electrical Code (NEC)
- Company safety policies and procedures
- Enforce Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) practices and electrical safety standards.
- Conduct safety meetings field inspections and job hazard assessments.
- Participate in incident investigations and corrective action implementation.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Journeyman Electrician certification or equivalent electrical trade qualification preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of industrial electrical maintenance experience.
- Minimum 3 years of leadership or supervisory experience.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Industrial electrical systems
- Power distribution
- Instrumentation
- PLCs
- Motor controls
- Reliability practices
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics blueprints and technical drawings.
- Valid drivers license with acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Mining mineral processing cement chemical processing manufacturing utilities or oil & gas industry experience.
- MSHA training and mining experience strongly preferred.
- Associates Degree or Bachelors Degree in Electrical Technology Engineering or related field.
- Experience with:
- Allen-Bradley PLCs
- Siemens PLCs
- SAP PM
- Maximo
- Predictive maintenance technologies
- Working knowledge of reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) principles.

- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to respond to after-hours emergencies and support rotating schedules as required.
