Thilmany is seeking a motivated and hands-on Electrical Engineer Intern to join our engineering team for the summer of 2027. This position provides hands-on experience in a complex manufacturing environment where you will work alongside experienced engineers to support electrical systems process improvements reliability initiatives and capital projects.
This role offers a unique opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world engineering challenges while contributing to the safe and efficient operation of a paper manufacturing facility.
Pay Rate
- $27.00 per hour
- Housing stipend available for qualified candidates relocating to the Kaukauna area for the duration of the internship assignment.
Requirements
- Enrolled in an Electrical Engineering or similar Engineering degree program
- Minimum sophomore standing preferred
- Interest in industrial electrical systems automation controls or manufacturing processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing setting and spending time on the production floor.
- Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organization
- Experience with PLCs AutoCAD electrical design software or industrial automation systems is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Must follow Ahlstroms manufacturing and hygiene processes procedures and policies as applicable to the positions areas of responsibility in order to meet and maintain the safety quality and regulatory compliance requirements for each grade of paper
- Assist with troubleshooting and improving electrical and control systems throughout the mill.
- Support engineers with electrical design modifications and upgrades to manufacturing equipment.
- Participate in reliability and continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment performance.
- Assist with PLC instrumentation motor control and automation projects.
- Analyze equipment performance data and recommend solutions to improve efficiency and reduce downtime.
- Support capital project planning execution and commissioning activities.
- Develop and update electrical drawings documentation and technical procedures.
- Work closely with operations maintenance and engineering teams to identify and resolve equipment issues.
- Participate in safety programs and help ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.
