Job Summary

SPONSOR FUNDED:
This is a regular full-time position involving on-campus and online duties with job continuation dependent upon grant funding.

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:

Bachelors degree and one year of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:

  • A successful candidate must have a strong work ethic and ability to maintain strict confidentiality; must have strong organizational record-keeping time-management and multi-tasking skills; Excellent oral written listening and communication skills; Experience advising counseling and/or mentoring students; Experience in coordinating program services creating and conducting presentations and/or facilitating workshops.
  • Preference may be given to those who possess a masters degree with a minimum of two (2) years of full-time experience working as an academic coach academic or career advisor or similar role in higher education nonprofit or community service organization. Previous TRIO work experience or experience working with low-income first-generation and/or students with disabilities is a plus; Background similar to participants served by TRIO SSS Prog.

Educational Opp & TRIO Program

This position will be located at theAlpharetta GSU Perimeter College Campus

The TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) programs are federally funded by the United States Department of Education. Through specialized services their goal is to increase the retention and graduation rates of college students whodemonstrateacademic need and who are either first-generation and/orlow-income and/or have a documented disability. This goal is based upon the belief that all students regardless of age family background learning style or presence of a disability should have equal opportunity to reach their full personal academicand career potential.

TheEducational Program Specialistis responsible for the provision of services to the TRIO SSS (Student Support Services) holistic approach thispositionwilladvocate for and empower participants toward self-sufficiency by providing needs assessmentsandoffering advisementandguidance in the areas of academic financial careersocialand personaldevelopment. Responsibilities include advising (academic career personal and financial) assisting in graduate/professional school preparation conducting workshops and tracking student records. The Educational Program Specialist should possess excellent communication skills necessary to develop a strong rapport with undergraduate students faculty and university staff.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Identifyand recruit eligible participants for TRIO SSS Program

  • Maintain a caseload of students and meet regularly with students to provide academic career social/personal financial andtransfer/graduate/professionalschool advisement.

  • Develop planandfacilitateseminars and workshops for program participants

  • Coordinate academic cultural and educational services/activities to meetobjectives.

  • Maintain detailed andaccuraterecords of program datarequiredfor federal reporting purposes.

  • Generate monthly reports andassistDirector with annual performance reporting.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Ability to make oral presentations to undergraduate-level students

  • Possess experience advising first-generation college students and individuals with disabilities

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The position may require local travel between campuses to perform required duties attend meetings and other responsibilities.


Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.


Requires adequate vision hearing and manual dexterity to interact with people in person on the phone and in writing. The job takes place in normal environmental conditions.
