Job Summary
NOTE: This role is based in New York City and encourages a minimum of two days per week in the SoHo office. Some roles or teams may require additional in-office attendance if the essential functions of the role require it.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Editorial Assistant Trade Publishing will assist the Editorial Director and Executive Editor Harry Potter Publishing primarily providing administrative and editorial support on all core Harry Potter titles including frontlist publishing and backlist development as well as select other childrens book titles. This position provides an opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of childrens books to develop editorial skills and to engage in publishing strategy on high-profile titles in a fast-paced environment.
Please note this position requires a minimum of two days per week working in-office at Scholastics NYC (Soho) location. Additional in-office attendance may be required if the essential functions of the role require it.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide editorial support for all frontlist and backlist Harry Potter titles including initial review of routing material; coordination with production design and freelancers; drafting of copy and metadata; review of proofs; and management of reprint corrections.
Provide administrative support including scheduling of meetings note-taking preparation of presentation and meeting materials mailings file management research etc.
Provide editorial support on select other titles ranging from board books and picture books to graphic novels as needed; this may include review of routing passes drafting of copy and transmittals and evaluation of new submissions.
Coordinate cross-departmentally with Sales Marketing Publicity and Scholastic Reading Events to manage all information and material requests.
Participate in ideation of new publishing/backlist opportunities

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Crucial strengths include excellent writing skills problem solving organizational and time management skills and fluidity of communication in all forms (in person on the phone over video and via email).
Ability to meet deadlines prioritize and multi-task across several projects simultaneously.
Strong knowledge and affinity for the Harry Potter books and brand.
Strong interest in editorial development and publishing strategy.
PowerPoint / visual presentation skills are a plus.
