EC TA Clarke Elementary School (Autism)

Position Summary

The Exceptional Children (EC) Teacher Assistant supports EC teachers in delivering specialized instruction and services to students with disabilities. This role focuses on assisting with instructional activities behavior support inclusion services and ensuring that students receive the accommodations and modifications outlined in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

• Assist the EC teacher with implementing lesson plans and instructional activities

• Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with disabilities

• Support students in both resource and inclusion classroom settings

• Reinforce learning concepts and help students stay engaged in instruction

• Assist with modifications and accommodations as outlined in student IEPs

• Support students with behavioral emotional and academic needs

• Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) under teacher direction

• Promote positive behavior and reinforce school-wide expectations

• Assist with de-escalation strategies when needed

• Help maintain a safe and structured learning environment

• Assist in documenting student progress and collecting data

• Help ensure accommodations are being implemented with fidelity

• Maintain confidentiality of all student records and information

• Support EC teachers with organization of IEP materials and documentation

• Assist with classroom organization materials preparation and technology use

• Monitor students during transitions lunch and other school activities as needed

• Support testing environments including EOCs and other assessments

• Help supervise students during arrival dismissal and hallway transitions

• Work closely with EC teachers general education teachers counselors and administrators

• Communicate effectively with staff regarding student needs and progress

• Participate in team meetings and professional development as required

• High School Diploma or GED

• Associate degree or completion of 48 college credit hours (preferred based on district requirements)

• Experience working with children or adolescents preferably in an educational setting

• Experience working with students with disabilities

• Knowledge of IEPs behavior plans and inclusive practices

• CPI or de-escalation training (or willingness to obtain)

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• Patience empathy and a passion for supporting diverse learners

• Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively

• Classroom management and organizational skills

• Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic school environment

• Ability to stand walk and move throughout the classroom and school campus

• Ability to assist students physically if needed (lifting guiding supporting mobility)

• Ability to assist in students personal care needs (changing diapers feeding etc)

• Ability to respond quickly in emergency or behavioral situations

• School-based setting with exposure to a variety of student needs and behaviors

• May include working in inclusion classrooms EC resource rooms and other school areas.
