The Macon R-1 School District is seeking a reliable and safety-focusedDriver/Mechanicto join our transportation team. This position safely transports students whilesupporting the district with light mechanical duties to ensure safe reliable and efficient transportation services.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Valid commercial drivers license (CDL) with a with S (School Bus) endorsement (or ability to obtain one)
• Previous experience as a bus driver or in a similar driving/transportation role preferred but not required
• Experience working with children is a plus
• Ability to follow safety procedures and manage student behavior
• Ability to work under a team concept
• Good communication and organizational skills
• Must pass background check
• Demonstrated success in performing a wide variety of tasks requiring understanding of and proficiency at automotive mechanical repair including diesels
• Possess extensive knowledge of all mechanical and electrical parts pertaining to a school bus and have the ability to repair it
• Candidate must possess or obtain inspection license

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Follow assigned routes including regular and alternative routes for special activities and ensure punctuality;
2. Ensure students board and disembark the bus in a safe and orderly manner;
3. Obey all traffic laws including speed limits stop signs and traffic signals;
4. Maintain pupil control and write reports on misconduct of students if necessary;
5. Inspect vehicle before driving;
6. Report any irregularities in vehicle before or after route;
7. Demonstrates extensive knowledge of operation maintenance and repair of all vehicles used by Macon R-I and Consortium School Districts;

9. Is responsible for the installation of safety equipment used by the school districts transportation system;
10. Keeps accurate current records on the maintenance schedule for all district vehicles used by the pupil transportation system;
11. Keeps the tools and machinery of the transportation system in a safe organized manner;
12. Makes recommendations regarding purchase of spare parts and necessary repair of vehicles;
13. Periodically inspects all vehicles to ensure they are in proper working order;
14. Establishes and maintains a systematic program to keep transportation vehicles clean;
15. Establishes and maintains a systematic program for routine vehicle maintenance;
16. Assures that buses conform to Highway Patrol standards;
17. Performs minor auto body repair using bondo fiberglass and paint;
18. Keeps the tools and machinery of the transportation system in a safe organized manner;
19. Performs emergency road service to disabled buses. Drives replacement bus to site and calls for wrecker service when needed;
20. Serves as an emergency substitute bus driver bus aide or crossing guard if an appropriate substitute cannot be secured;
21. Performs duties and function of these positions and maintains all licenses and certification required to perform these duties;
22. Attends appropriate workshops and training programs as assigned by the director;
23. Assumes other duties as assigned

7. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
8. Ability to operate a computer utilizing the districts standard software products plus any additional software that may be unique to the position.
9. Ability to diagnose and locate mechanical and electrical malfunctions and defects.
10. General knowledge of hydraulic and air brakes systems steering systems electrical systems transmission and differential systems.
11. General knowledge of the principles and theories of the internal combustion engine.
12. knowledge of safe working methods and procedures.

Terms of Employment:

Salary and work schedule to be established by the Superintendent.
