About This Position
Drainage Operations and Maintenance II
This position performs highly skilled construction and maintenance work in one or more specialized programs incorporating standard construction and maintenance techniques to produce a finished product to required standards.
Essential duties and functions pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
Qualified to operate a minimum of one specialized type of heavy equipment per the Equipment Training Program.
Drives trucks and trailer rigs to haul equipment and materials which includes concrete mix truck and tandem dump trucks with trailers.
Performs and may train others in preventive equipment maintenance minor maintenance and repairs to ensure proper operating conditions prior to leaving for the job site (ex: checks oil water fuel tires hydraulic system etc.).
Reports malfunctions and repair requirements to the crew lead or supervisor.
Skillfully operates and performs maintenance on gas diesel and propane equipment such as pneumatic jack hammer air compressor generator chain saw lawn mower weed eater lawn blower hedge trimmer gasoline tamper walk-behind roller arrow board quickie cut-off saw.
Performs work in storm water management facilities and on-stream bank stabilization and erosion control projects within open waterways and wet environments.
Performs traffic control at job sites; places and gathers cones warning signs and barricades; flags traffic; sets forms; installs guard rails.
Proficient in and may train others in building concrete forms pouring and finishing concrete placing hot or cold asphalt mix and other materials required for general maintenance and repairs associated with the Watershed Protection department.
Performs and may oversee landscape maintenance including trimming trees mowing grass seeding laying sod and erosion control.
Performs tasks during emergency situations such as floods severe weather and accidents during and after business hours.
Prepares daily documentation material and equipment requisition forms JHA and other forms as required.
Participates in on-the-job and skill-based training in order to meet team and department goals and objectives.
Checks jobsite for marked hazards. Utilization of Job Hazard Analysis.
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
May occasionally train others.
Must possess required knowledge skills abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate with or without reasonable accommodations that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
Knowledge and application of the Texas Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices I (TMUTCD) provisions as it relates to the job.
Knowledge and proper use of a surveyors level to maintain elevation grades on project sites.
Skill in producing finished quality maintenance and repairs with minimum rework.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective communication and working relationships with city employees and the public.
Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in assigned tasks.
Ability to read and interpret blue prints.
Ability to work in storm water management facilities; reconstruction/rehabilitation/maintenance.
Ability to read write and follow written oral and computerized instructions; log onto a computer; abd complete electronic forms reports and online training.
Ability to train others in the use of traffic control.
Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent plus two (2) years experience in maintenance and/or construction including 6 months experience in operation of heavy duty equipment.
One (1) year of additional related experience may substitute for one (1) year of high school up to a maximum of four (4) years.
Valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL). Specific endorsements may be required to be obtained within 120 days of hire.
Must maintain a good driving record.
Continuous outdoor activity frequent sitting standing walking squatting bending twisting upper body climbing; exposure to extreme heat cold noise inclement weather electrical hazards mechanical hazards fume/odor hazards toxic waste/material hazards; and occasional kneeling crawling carrying/lifting up to ninety (90) pounds andindoor activity.
Experience operating heavy equipment such as Excavator Rubber Tire Loader Haul Tractor with Lowboy trailer Gradall and Track Loader
Experience setting up and/or conducting Traffic control.
Experience with the One Call System.
Experience driving Dump Truck and Trailer
Experience planning routes to jobsite
This position will report to the Open Waterways section of the Operations Division.
SALARYRANGE:
$23.76 - $27.32
PHYSICAL WORK LOCATION:
9200 Sherman Rd. Austin TX 78742
DAYS AND HOURS:
40 hours per week Monday Thursday 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
May require working outside of normal business hours as dictated by business addition work schedule may change to a rotating shift during weather events. Must be agreeable to accepting on-call assignments which might result in a call-back to work.

DRIVINGREQUIREMENT:
This position requires a valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL). Must maintain a good driving record. External New Hires must meet theCity of Austins Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite. To be considered for a driving position applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
