Job Summary
Design 3D/IMRT/VMAT/SBRT treatment plans using computerized 3D planning system with optimal beam geometry directions and weights to deliver a prescribed radiation dose and spare critical structures in accordance with the Radiation Oncologists prescription for patients receiving radiation therapy.
Communicate technical information and provide support to radiation oncologists medical physicists radiation therapists and other staff to advise in the implementation of designed treatment plans.
Identify and contour normal and dose-limiting structures by utilizing images from one or more data sets.
Perform image registrations with various data sets including but not limited to CT MRI and PET.
Participate in continuing education and quality improvement processes.
Educates students and visiting professionals in the technical aspects of treatment plan development in radiation therapy.
Participates in and supports clinical research projects.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in physics (or a related Life Physical or Applied Science) is required.
JRCERT-accredited Formal Education in Medical Dosimetry (BS/MS/Certificate) is preferred.
Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB) eligibility is required while MDCB certification is preferred.
Clinical medical dosimetryexperience including 3D conformal and IMRT/VMAT/SBRT treatment planning is preferred.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Working knowledge of radiation safety and correct use of immobilization devices compensators wedges field arrangement and other treatment variables.
- Expertise in the technical aspects of radiation oncology and medical physics to develop optimal treatment plans.
- Knowledge in health care informatics including the resources devices and methods to acquire store and retrieve data.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate the exchange of information with patients family members the radiation oncology treatment team as well as outside entities.
- High-level critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Experience
Clinical medical dosimetry experience including 3D conformal and IMRT/VMAT/SBRT treatment planning
Dosimetrist I: 0-1 year preferred
Dosimetrist II: 2-3 years required
Sr Dosimetrist: 3-5 years required
