The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking to hire an Accountant. This position will establish and maintain Accounts Payable accounts for the agencies serviced by Public Safety Shared addition this position will reconcile SAP and Comptroller system reports answer technical inquiries regarding accounting requirements and practices serve as lead worker and respond to management inquiries. The ideal candidate would be self-motivated task oriented and organized. We encourage all qualified individuals to apply.
- Establishes and maintains Accounts Payable accounts for the agencies serviced by Public Safety Shared Services.
- Reconciles SAP and Comptroller system reports.
- Answers high technical and complex inquiries regarding accounting requirements and practices for Accounts Payable systems and requirement.
- Serves as designated lead worker.
- Responds to management inquiries.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
- Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with courses in business administration and accounting or four (4) years of technical accounting experience.
- Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.
- Prefers at least five (5) years of professional accounting and/or auditing experience.
- Prefers intermediate proficiency using Microsoft Word Excel Power Point Outlook and/or similar types of computer programs.
- Prefers at least five (5) years of experience evaluating accounting problems of moderate difficulty such as rectifying discrepancies between financial system reports and developing a plan to resolve the issue.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience working with multiple projects and serving as a lead worker and/or supervisor over staff.
- Prefers at least five (5) years of professional experience performing detailed work involving application of accounting theory to routine accounting or auditing problems such as with a reconciliation process.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience interpreting finance laws and applying them appropriately to the vouchering process.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience reviewing and auditing travel vouchers.
- Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee regardless of position held is prohibited.
- Required to utilize digital technology tools platforms and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency productivity and digital transformation efforts within the department.
