Description of Work

SALARY RANGE: $50696.00 - $77809.00

The Caswell and Rockingham County District Attorneys Office are seeking a dedicated and skilled investigator to join our team in the pursuit of justice. This role offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative and supportive environment and to make a difference in our community.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Key Responsibilities:
  • Locate or relocate witnesses; and interview witnesses including civilian law enforcement and special expert witnesses;

  • Serve subpoenas;

  • Provide diagrams photographs and other exhibits required for prosecuting cases;

  • Participate in case evaluations regarding disposition of cases;

  • Working with law enforcement partners to obtain reports and supplements;

  • Coordinating the availability of law enforcement partners;

  • Serve as the grand jury coordinator to gather indictments and witnesses for the District Attorneys Office;

  • Work with evidence custodians with each law enforcement agency in the disposition of evidence;

Knowledge Skills and Abilities / Competencies:

Knowledge of: evidence collection investigative techniques and procedures; elements of criminal law; processes and procedures of the judicial system; basic human psychology; and social cultural and economic fabric of the community.

Skills in:observation; analysis; information gathering; fact finding; interviewing; and report writing.

Ability to:make pertinent observations and to analyze those observations against the charges in a specific case or situation; effectively communicate with people of diverse backgrounds; establish effective working relationships with law enforcement agencies; write detailed clear and concise reports; coordinate and share information; and work as a team member.

Must possess a valid NC drivers license and reliable transportation.

Education and Experience

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Graduation from a four-year college or university preferably in the field of law criminal justice and psychology or sociology with one (1) year of experience in legal judicial law enforcement or investigative work. An associate degree with three (3) years of experience in the above-mentioned fields may substitute for the four-year degree requirement. Other combinations of education and experience that provide the requisite knowledge skills and abilities will be considered.

MANAGEMENT PREFERENCES

  • Technologically savvy with demonstrated experience in handling digital evidence and using investigative databases;

  • Experience working collaboratively with law enforcement and legal professionals;

  • Basic knowledge of the criminal justice system and law enforcement procedures;

  • Valid North Carolina drivers license and reliable transportation;

  • Position requires travel between counties regularly;

  • Active North Carolina Law Enforcement Certification preferred.
