Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Distribution Engineer I to support the planning design analysis and maintenance of electrical distribution systems. This role will be responsible for ensuring the safe reliable and efficient delivery of electrical power to residential commercial and industrial customers while supporting infrastructure improvement projects and system expansion initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop electrical distribution systems including overhead and underground distribution lines substations transformers switches and related equipment.
Perform engineering studies such as load flow analysis fault analysis voltage drop calculations and system capacity evaluations.
Prepare engineering drawings specifications calculations and technical reports.
Evaluate requests for new customer connections and design distribution infrastructure to support system growth.
Support asset management activities by maintaining equipment records and recommending maintenance repair or replacement strategies.
Ensure compliance with company standards industry regulations environmental requirements and safety guidelines.
Assist in identifying opportunities to improve system reliability resilience and power quality.
Coordinate with construction crews contractors operations personnel and other stakeholders throughout project execution.
Support outage restoration efforts by analyzing equipment failures and developing corrective solutions.
Utilize system data monitoring tools and performance metrics to support engineering decisions and operational improvements.
Participate in project planning scheduling budgeting and execution activities.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in electrical engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Strong understanding of electrical power distribution systems and engineering principles.
Knowledge of distribution system design protection systems transformers substations and utility operations.
Experience with engineering design software CAD applications and power system analysis tools.
Proficiency in AutoCAD; GIS experience is a plus.
Strong analytical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting electric utility or power distribution projects.
Familiarity with IEEE NEC NESC and utility industry standards.
Knowledge of smart grid technologies and modern distribution systems.
Project management experience within engineering or utility environments.
