Job Description

The Director of Alumni & Constituent Relations serves as the chief engagement officer in the College of Architecture Arts and Design. This position is primarily responsible for providing leadership stewardship and guidance for the colleges engagement efforts with alumni donors and friends to increase constituent engagement and philanthropic support for the college.

Additionally the director will collaborate with college and university colleagues to further Virginia Techs overall engagement and institutional advancement goals and objectives.

The director is responsible for planning promoting executing and evaluating alumni engagement programs projects and events for the collaboration with the colleges Director of Marketing and Communications the director strategizes and implements targeted alumni communication efforts for the College of Architecture Arts and Design.

In collaboration with the Dean the Assistant Dean for Advancement and school directors the Director of Alumni & Constituent Relations provides leadership stewardship and logistical support for all college and school advisory boards and committees. This work may include the identification of potential board members; organizing retreats meetings and trainings; and guiding communications specific to this constituency with a focus on diversifying membership.

The director will be a key contributor to the colleges fundraising efforts and will actively identify engage and cultivate constituents who have the capacity and inclination for philanthropic support.

The Director of Alumni & Constituent Relations reports to the Assistant Dean for Advancement in the College of Architecture Arts and Design.

Required Qualifications

Masters or professional degree in a related field or a Bachelors degree with substantial related experience comparable to an advanced degree.

Demonstrated ability to strategize implement and build constituency programs and activities that increase engagement levels.

Evidence of the ability to cultivate positive and productive relationships with people from a range of backgrounds and differing perspectives.

Strong computer skills including desktop publishing experience and a general knowledge of customer relationship management software.

Evidence of the ability to analyze available data to help strategize best outcomes for engagement efforts.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a higher education independent school or non-profit environment.

Demonstrated experience in alumni engagement and/or client-relations.

Demonstrated experience cultivating managing and training volunteers and developing volunteer leadership.

Regional and national travel required for the purposes of conducting field research cultivation solicitation and stewardship which may include overnights and weekends.

Must have the ability and willingness to travel utilizing standard commercial and/or personal modes of transportation.

Ability to work nights and weekends and participation in college or university programs when possible.

The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
