Position Description


Advanced Energy United (United) is currently seeking a strategic experienced self-starting candidate with a background in legislative work issue advocacy coalition building and/or organizing to lead Uniteds legislative and political engagement in New York. The New York Director will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with legislative and administrative decision-makers in New York developing and executing on Uniteds New York strategy and working collaboratively with United regulatory and policy teams to achieve successful outcomes that expand markets for the advanced energy industry. This work will educate decision-makers and candidates about advanced energy technologies and facilitate United member company engagement in policy advocacy. Specific areas of focus may include energy affordability clean energy and transmission infrastructure grid resilience and flexibility transportation and building electrification and regional wholesale markets.


The New York Director will report to the Northeast Managing Director and will also assist the Managing Director in the development of strategy programs and initiatives that advance the organizational mission to grow markets for advanced energy technologies in the Northeast region.


Candidates will need to have the ability to travel occasionally to meet with United staffmembers coalition allies and stakeholders and public officials.


Geographic focus for this position:UnitedsNortheaststates currently include NY MA CT and RI.



Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of strategies in collaboration with Advanced Energy United policy team members to accelerate New Yorks clean energy transition in the electric and transportation sectors and meet short- and long-term policy objectives as part of Uniteds policy portfolio. These could be legislative administrative or regulatory or a mix of all three.
  • Work with Advanced Energy United member companies to develop policy positions and reach consensus on positions on key issues.
  • Manage lobbyist and consultant relationships on the ground and their engagement in legislative matters and/or communications strategies.
  • Organize member opportunities for direct decision-maker engagement including lobby days legislator and candidate education earned media and participation in legislative regulatory and administrative processes as needed.
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with coalition partners allies and key legislative and administrative staff. Engage in coordination and advocacy efforts with coalition allies in support of clean energy goals.
  • Create reports presentations fact sheets and other written and visual materials needed for education and advocacy efforts draft comments testimony and deliver verbal presentations as necessary.
  • Work with our communications team to identify opportunities for Advanced Energy United to seek earned media coverage. This may include drafting press statements doing media interviews writing blog posts participating in webinars and creating opportunities to showcase advanced energy.
  • Travel on an as needed basis (up to 30%) for advocacy days meetings with key allies and stakeholders communications outreach and other efforts on behalf of Advanced Energy United.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in public policy political science economics engineering or arts and sciences preferred or comparable experience; masters degree in a relevant area is a plus.
  • 7 15 years of professional experience in legislative policy development campaign work or organizing in the energy or transportation sector; working with business leaders is a plus.
  • Interest in energy and transportation issues and an understanding of the importance of policy advocacy to advance an organizational agenda.
  • Entrepreneurial approach flexible attitude and ability to operate independently and handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills including the ability to independently draft clear comprehensive and persuasive written documents appropriate for intended audiences.
  • Intellectual curiosity inquisitive nature and excellent listening and problem-solving skills.
  • Performance-oriented individual with a strong work ethic demonstrated initiative and commitment to achieving goals.
  • Ability to engage members customers and funders and sellAdvanced Energy Unitedand its value proposition to those audiences.
  • Must have a sense of humor recognize there is always more to learn and not take oneself too seriously.
  • Must be willing to travel.
