Position Summary
Reporting to the Vice President FP&A the Senior Director FP&A will play a critical role in scaling the companys financial planning and analysis function during a critical phase of growth. This role will help build scalable financial infrastructure strengthen planning discipline and ensure financial tools processes and reports match the complexity and speed of the business.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Lead the execution of the Long-Range Plan (LRP) annual budget and rolling forecast processes
- Prepare quarterly financial reporting packages and executive-level narratives for senior leadership and the Board of Directors
- Collaborate with R&D and G&A leaders to track spend monitor KPIs identify key cost drivers (including CRO/vendor costs) and provide timely variance analysis to support informed operational and strategic decision-making.
- Develop streamline and enhance management reporting and department-level financial summaries to drive accountability and decision-making across the organization
- Maintain rigorous data accuracy and consistency across financial models source systems and reporting
- Develop a deep understanding of the companys business model and value drivers to improve forecasting accuracy and planning rigor
- Drive optimization and scalability of the companys FP&A systems (e.g. Planful) to support growth and evolving reporting needs
- Manage system administration tasks including data integration hierarchy maintenance and process automation
- Provide ad hoc financial analysis and strategic modeling to support decision-making and special projects
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance required or a related area degree preferred (e.g. MBA) with 12 years of progressive experience in the life sciences industry or an equivalent combination of academic and industry experience
- 5 years of experience in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry with deep knowledge of clinical studies and drug development required
- Hands-on with previous experience working in a startup highly preferred
- Mastery of Excel PowerPoint ThinkCell and hands-on experience with NetSuite and Planful (or similar FP&A tools)
- Proven ability to explain financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders
- Strong understanding of GAAP clinical trial accounting and the drug development lifecycle
- Proven ability to thrive in fast-paced agile environments and bring order to ambiguous situations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a strategic mindset

- San Diego-based: On-site requirement (Monday through Thursday)

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $266000 to $278000 per year. The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job and the industry education and skills and certifications.
Benefits

Employees will also be able to enroll in the Companys 401(k) addition employees will accrue 10 hours of paid vacation time every month and accrue 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked. Employees also enjoy 17 paid holidays each calendar year including a winter closure subject to applicable Company policies. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plan documents and Company policies which may be amended from time to time.
Other Compensation
The hired candidate will be eligible to receive an annual discretionary bonus and an equity award subject to the terms of the applicable employment agreement plan documents and Company policies.
