Job Summary
Overview:
The Diesel Technician is responsible for diagnosing repairing and performing preventative maintenance on diesel-powered trucks and commercial vehicles. This position requires advanced technical expertise strong diagnostic abilities and a commitment to delivering high-quality repairs while maintaining dealership and manufacturer standards. The Diesel Technician works independently to ensure customer vehicles are repaired safely efficiently and accurately while contributing to a productive and collaborative service department.
Responsibilities:
- Diagnose troubleshoot and repair diesel engines transmissions drivetrains steering suspension brake systems HVAC systems and electrical components.
- Perform preventative maintenance services according to manufacturer specifications.
- Utilize computerized diagnostic equipment and repair information systems to identify mechanical and electrical concerns.
- Complete warranty and customer-pay repairs accurately and efficiently.
- Inspect vehicles and identify additional maintenance or repair recommendations.
- Document diagnostic findings repair procedures labor operations and parts used on repair orders.
- Maintain productivity and quality standards established by the dealership.
- Follow all manufacturer repair procedures and dealership policies.
- Maintain a clean organized and safe work environment.
- Properly care for dealership tools equipment and customer vehicles.
- Participate in manufacturer training and continuing education programs to stay current with evolving technology.
- Mentor and assist apprentice or entry-level technicians as assigned.
- Communicate effectively with service advisors parts personnel and management regarding repair status additional recommendations and completion timelines.
- Comply with all OSHA safety regulations and dealership safety procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous diesel technician experience required; dealership experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engine systems diagnostics electrical systems drivetrains and heavy-duty vehicle repair.
- Experience using computerized diagnostic equipment and manufacturer repair information systems.
- Valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record.
- ASE and/or manufacturer certifications preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing to a team environment.
- Professionalism integrity and a strong commitment to customer satisfaction.
- Moderate to heavy physical activity required including standing for extended periods bending lifting up to 50 pounds and working in a shop environment.
