Diesel Mechanic

Founded in 1855 Collins is family-owned and produces softwood and hardwood products at their facilities in Chester California Lakeview Oregon and Kane Chester Collins has the Builders Supply retail hardware and building materials store. Collins is highly respected for their sustainable forest management practiced across their 370000 acres of FSC-certified lands in California Oregon and Pennsylvania.

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for the maintenance and repairs on all diesel gas and propane powered equipment. The diesel mechanic maintains engine systems transmissions brakes and electronic components while performing preventive maintenance and complex repairs.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Perform maintenance and repairs on all light and heavy equipment.
• Inspect diagnose and repair diesel engines and related components.
• Perform routine maintenance including oil changes filter replacements lubrication tire rotation and brake checks.
• Safety Leadership Enforce OSHA and company safety standards conduct safety audits lead toolbox talks and ensure incident reporting and corrective actions.

  • engage in continuing education and improvement to processes and work procedures; and
  • lead safety behavior by example.
• Create and manage fleet preventative maintenance and work orders within the CMMS system.
• Manage mobile equipment replacement schedule in coordination with mill leadership.
• Maintain critical spare parts and inventory for all rolling stock.
• Detect development mechanical issues and conduct preventive maintenance to reduce downtime.
• Utilize the maintenance tracking system to document completed repairs and service.
• Test and troubleshoot electrical systems fuel injection systems and hydraulic machinery.
• Disassemble engines replace faulty engine parts and perform major overhauls.
• Collaborate with team members and advise supervisors on vehicle condition and future maintenance requirements.
• Perform additional duties as required by supervisor.

• Must hold a diesel technology certification or equivalent experience.
• A minimum of 10-15 years prior experience as a diesel mechanic with a heavy equipment background.
• Proficiencyintroubleshootingandrepairingmechanicalhydraulicandelectricalsystems.
• Knowledge of operation of heavy equipment hand and power tools.
• Excellentproblem-solvingcommunicationandtimemanagementskills.
• Knowledgeofsafetyprotocolsemissionsregulationsandvehicleinspectionstandards.
• Ability to follow all company state and federal safety rules when performing required job duties.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal history check a pre-employment drug screening and a pre-employment motor vehicle report.

Environmental Conditions:

May be exposed to dust noise trip hazards and variable temperatures and weather conditions.

Required Personal Protective Equipment:

Individuals must be willing to wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times. Positions may require additional PPE at specific times. Examples of PPE which may be required include high visibility garments hand protection eye protection hearing protection a hard hat foot protection and a face shield.
