Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and dependable Diesel Mechanic to join our growing team in Asheville NC. The ideal candidate will have strong experience diagnosing repairing and maintaining diesel-powered equipment trucks trailers and heavy construction machinery. This position plays a critical role in ensuring fleet reliability safety compliance and operational uptime.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled service on diesel trucks heavy equipment and fleet vehicles
  • Diagnose mechanical hydraulic pneumatic and electrical issues using diagnostic tools and software
  • Repair and replace engines transmissions brakes suspension systems steering components and fuel systems
  • Conduct DOT inspections and ensure all equipment meets safety and compliance standards
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems wiring sensors and electronic control modules (ECMs)
  • Maintain accurate service records repair documentation and parts usage logs
  • Respond to emergency repair needs in the field when necessary
  • Inspect equipment for operational readiness and identify potential mechanical failures proactively
  • Collaborate with operations and fleet management teams to minimize downtime
  • Maintain a clean safe and organized work environment

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Technical school or diesel mechanic certification preferred
  • 3 years of diesel mechanic experience preferred
  • Experience working on heavy trucks utility equipment construction equipment or fleet vehicles
  • Strong understanding of diesel engines hydraulics electrical systems and diagnostics
  • Experience using OEM diagnostic software and scan tools preferred
  • Valid drivers license required; CDL is a plus
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work in varying outdoor conditions
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Preferred Experience

  • CAT Cummins Detroit Diesel International Freightliner Peterbilt Kenworth or Volvo equipment experience
  • Utility construction or heavy civil construction industry experience
  • Welding and fabrication experience is a plus
  • Experience maintaining trailers compressors generators and support equipment preferred
