- General Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Health Services Director the Diabetes Trainer for School Settings supports diabetes education and training to school districts.
Assignment:
This position will be five hours per week with additional hours assigned as needed. It is open to internal applicants only and will close on Thursday July 2 2026 at 5:00 PM
Salary:
The full salary range for this position is $42.59 - $51.82 per hour.Offers are made at the entry level of the range.
Regular attendance required:This role relies on regular and reliable attendance to ensure consistency for our students and help support a positive productive learning environment.- Essential Functions/Other Functions
Essential Functions:
- Facilitate training sessions and workshops for teachers administrators and other non-clinical staff at schools and daycares on various aspects of diabetes management including recognizing symptoms monitoring blood glucose levels and administering glucagon and insulin.
- Deliver standardized educational materials resources and guidelines to support diabetes management in school settings ensuring alignment with best practices and relevant policies.
- Communicate with school nurses and administrators to schedule and coordinate logistics for training sessions.
- Provide support and guidance to school personnel addressing questions concerns and challenges related to diabetes management.
- Maintain accurate records of training sessions participant evaluations and expenses.
- Stays up-to-date on the latest advancements in diabetes management education and technology and adapts training strategies and materials accordingly to ensure relevance and effectiveness.
- Maintain regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Perform professional nursing duties as needed.
- Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Washington State registered nurse (RN) license.
- Experience working with pediatric diabetes patients.
- Experience working with different diabetes types symptoms treatment options and management techniques including blood glucose monitoring insulin administration and emergency protocols.
- Current CPR/1st aid certification.
- Bachelors degree in Nursing.
- Familiarity with local/state regulations related to student health.
- Hold a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) credential.
- Working Conditions/Employment Requirements
Working Conditions:
- Exposed to diseases carried by students.
- Travel to various schools within the designated area to conduct diabetes training sessions.
- Ability to physically move and/or lift equipment varying in weight up to 35 lb.
- Regular attendance during assigned work schedule.
- Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through Washington State Patrol and FBI.
- Proof of immunization/disease including MMR/Td/Hepatitis B/Varicella.
