Job Summary

We are seeking a DERMS Modeler to support the design build and ongoing maintenance of a network operations model for a Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS). This role will play a critical part in enabling advanced grid capabilities such as forecasting optimization and DER integration by transforming disparate data sources into a unified connected network model.
The ideal candidate will bring experience in power system modeling data transformation and utility operations systems and will contribute to both initial DERMS implementation and long-term model support.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the model build process for DERMS by integrating multiple data sources into a network operations model including:
    • GIS data
    • Substation internals
    • Customer data
    • Asset management systems
    • DER attribution data
    • Customer programs and interconnection agreements
  • Convert and normalize structured data formats (CIM XML JSON) into usable models for DERMS and ADMS environments
  • Develop and maintain interfaces and data pipelines connecting upstream data sources to the DERMS platform
  • Build and maintain:
    • Logical network models (hierarchical grid topology)
    • Full impedance network models for power flow and operational analysis
  • Support DERMS implementation efforts including:
    • Data modeling strategy
    • Workflow and process design
    • Integration with ADMS and DERMS Model Manager platforms
  • Ensure integration and operational continuity with existing systems leveraging the network operations model (e.g. ADMS SCADA analytics platforms)
  • Provide ongoing modeling support post-implementation including model updates validation and performance tuning
Required Qualifications
  • Experience working with DERMS and/or ADMS platforms ideally with:
    • GE Vernova GridOS DERMS
    • GridOS Connect
  • Hands-on experience:
    • Building CIM (CIM16 preferred) model files
    • Developing network topology models
    • Creating impedance-based models for power flow analysis
  • Strong data engineering/modeling capability with:
    • Structured data formats (XML JSON CIM)
    • Large-scale data transformation
  • Proficiency with Databricks or similar data platforms
  • Understanding of electric utility grid operations and distribution systems
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
  • Experience modeling in:
    • GIS systems
    • Oracle NMS or similar network modeling tools
  • Familiarity with:
    • Distributed Energy Resources (DER) programs or platforms (e.g. PowerClerk renewables integration)
    • SCADA systems or communications modeling
    • Utility coordination processes (e.g. DCC Distribution Control Center)
  • Experience with:
    • Databases querying or scripting (SQL Python etc.)
Education & Experience
  • Bachelors degree in:
    • Engineering (Electrical preferred)
    • Computer Science
    • Information Systems
    • or related field
  • 3 years of experience in:
    • Power system modeling ADMS/DERMS or related utility systems
What Success Looks Like
  • Successful delivery of a fully integrated DERMS network model enabling forecasting and optimization
  • Accurate and scalable integration of multiple enterprise data sources
  • Seamless interoperability with existing utility platforms (ADMS SCADA GIS)
  • Consistent model performance and reliability post-implementation
