Job Description Summary

The Deputy Director of Athletics (Deputy AD) is a key advisor to the Vice President & Director of Athletics (VP/AD) the Senior Deputy Athletics Director and the Athletics Executive Leadership Team. This position provides leadership for key operating units and strategic projects and partnerships. The Deputy AD will hold a portfolio of staff and unit leadership across several student-athlete partner and constituent areas and serve as a sport supervisor for assigned programs. The person in this position may serve as the Universitys designated NCAA and Atlantic Coast Conference Senior Woman Administrator (SWA).

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Provides leadership and ensures day-to-day coordination of assigned operating units and their senior leaders.
  • Manages personnel and student conduct issues while coordinating communication through the appropriate campus constituencies.
  • Represents the VP/AD with an array of intra - campus departments.
  • Supports VP/AD Senior Deputy Athletics Director and Athletics Executive Leadership Team with leadership of key strategic partnership initiatives revenue generation and cross-functional projects.
  • Ensures proactive communication strong partnership and smooth delivery of services between Wake Forest Athletics and University divisions.
  • Responsible for planning resourcing and execution of various university stakeholder committees and groups in collaboration with appropriate University officials.
  • Mentors coaches and supports emerging unit leaders while building strong connectivity and partnership across the University community.
  • Promotes the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program by enforcing and adhering to all Departmental policies and procedures as well as rules and regulations of the University the Atlantic Coast Conference and the NCAA.
  • Ability to travel and flexible to work nights and weekends.

Other Functions:

  • Executes special projects strategic planning initiatives and other duties as assigned by the VP/AD and Sr. Deputy AD.
  • Serves as Sport Administrator for assigned sports.
  • May serve as the SWA on various ACC and NCAA committees.
  • Serves as requested on campus community ACC and NCAA committees.

Required Education Knowledge Skills Abilities:

  • Bachelors degree plus a minimum of 10-15 years of senior-level experience in athletics administration or professional sports or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Superior knowledge of executive functions of autonomy conference athletics programs professional sports organizations and/or related businesses.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative environment.
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Hold a valid Drivers License and the ability to meet the requirements of the Universitys automobile insurance.

Preferred Education Knowledge Skills Abilities:

  • Broad understanding of contemporary sports and entertainment ecosystem.
  • Demonstrated initiative understanding and negotiation of complex business partnerships and contracts.
