Description of Work
The Deputy Communications Director serves as a senior member of the Departments Communications and External/Public Affairs Office and provides communications project management and executive support to the Deputy Secretary for Communications and External/Public Affairs and the Communications Director. The position plays a key role in developing recommending implementing and evaluating communications strategies and programs that advance the Departments mission support the Governors and Secretarys priorities and promote North Carolinas economic and workforce development efforts.The position requires strong writing editing project management organizational and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively with executive leadership media businesses government officials and other stakeholders.
The position performs other duties and related special assignments as needed to support the communications priorities and objectives of the Department.
Some travel will be required including occasional overnight. Travel will be mostly in-state.
Must have a valid NC Drivers License or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment.

Applicants who possess the following qualifications may receive management preference:
- Experience working with senior leadership or other organizational leaders on communications needs.
- Demonstrated experience writing and editing press releases articles op-eds talking points speeches briefing materials newsletters or other public-facing communications.
- Experience coordinating events meetings media activities or other communications projects.
- Experience working with media representatives or responding to media inquiries.
- Demonstrated experience working with digital communications platforms website content management systems social media platforms multimedia web and intranet applications email marketing tools and communications analytics.

**Salary Grade Range: $67122 - $117465**
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits including health insurance as well as retirement. Depending on the business need and work suitability this position may be a candidate for telework subject to management approval.

Bachelors degree in Public Relations Communications Public Affairs Media Journalism English or related field from an accredited institution and five years of experience in communications public relations or publicity work;
or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
