Deputy Attorney General I-V Defensive Litigation Unit DelDOT (primary assignment)

The Department of Justice(DOJ) seeks a Deputy Attorney General (DAG) to serve as a red light andspeed camera prosecutor. This DAGposition is in the Civil Division Defensive Litigation Unit (DLU) in NewCastle or Kent County and is primarily responsible for advising DelDOT on its ElectronicSafety Enforcement Programs (ESEP). This DAG will primarily represent the State asa prosecutor in all civil electronic enforcement matters in JP Court statewidecommunicate with the court and law enforcement regarding the scheduling ofcalendars and any requested discovery and motion practice and litigate appealsof administrative decisions. This DAG will advise DelDOT on ESEP compliancewith Federal and State laws review civil ESEP violations and respond toquestions from stakeholders and motorists negotiate statewide ESEP contractsresolve ESEP vendor related issues and draft review and respond to existingnew or proposed legislation or regulations related to ESEP.

This DAG will have other duties relatedto the Department of Transportation as well as handling additional assignmentsas directed by the State Solicitor Deputy State Solicitor Unit Head orAssistant Unit Head.

Pay Grade 14 DAG II Salary Range $92259/min $96760/max

Pay Grade 16 DAG III Salary Range $101898/min $104137/max

Pay Grade 18 DAG IV Salary Range $112013/min $117440/max

Pay Grade 20 DAG V Salary Range $125885/min $135154/max

*The salary of $87458 for the Deputy Attorney General I position applies to candidates who hold active bar admission

Membership in Delaware Bar isrequired. The most qualified candidateshave some prior general counsel insurance defense litigation experience orprosecution experience; howeversuch expertise and experiences are not required for selection. The DAG shouldbe able to take a proactive approach to assisting its agency clients thereforea successful candidate should have the ability to work with State agencies toidentify potential issues and assist State agencies to address such issues inorder to minimize or avoid future legal action.The DAG should be able to work independently meet deadlines andcommunicate clearly with client agencies and should have demonstrated legalability and a thorough knowledge of relevant laws and court rules.

The DAG must have a willingnessto travel to meet departmental needs and meeting schedules. Hearings before the JP Court occur in NewCastle and Sussex County currently. The DOJ will provide an office for thisDAG in a DOJ Office.
