Job Description:

Under close supervision from faculty dentists dental residents or higher-level dental assistant performs duties in support of dental office and operatory functions.

Minimum Qualifications:

The basic functions of this position are to perform chair-side duties which include seating the patient taking and developing x-rays assist the dentist or dental hygienist by aspirating fluids and handing instruments during treatment clean and sterilize instruments and trays set up operatory prior to treatment and clean up operatory after treatment.

The basic function of this position is to perform clerical duties which includes answering phones making appointments maintaining patient records and maintaining supply inventory.

Performs other related duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education/experience/licensing:

Experience in dental office practices and procedures and routine chairside assisting. Courses in dental offices practices and clinical procedures may be used in lieu of experience.
Current Basic Life Support.

Communication and other skills:

Demonstrates clinical competency in caring for patients as identified in units Scope of Care.
Demonstrates competency in the care of the patient in the following stages of the life cycle: infants children adolescents adults and geriatrics.
Effectively responds to customer service needs.
Demonstrates effective age and culturally appropriate interaction with patients families and other members of the health care team.
Adheres to University of Toledo Customer Service values.
Seeks out ways to assist patients and co-workers.
Actively participates in performance improvement activities as related to job duties.
