Position Overview

SteerBridge is seeking a Data Scientist (Mid-Level) to support the Modern Disability Claims program. This role independently owns analytical projects from problem framing through model deployment applying statistical modeling and machine learning to claims and healthcare data in support of VA disability claims processing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently design build validate and maintain statistical and machine learning models to support claims and healthcare data analysis.

  • Perform exploratory data analysis feature engineering and data validation across claims clinical and other healthcare datasets.

  • Manage analytical projects from problem framing through model deployment including sprint planning prioritization and status reporting with minimal oversight.

  • Collaborate with data engineers and architects to source integrate and validate data required for modeling and analytics.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve data pipeline modeling and analytical issues of moderate complexity.

  • Document model design assumptions methodologies performance and validation results and communicate findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Mentor junior data scientists on modeling techniques coding standards and analytical best practices.

Required Qualifications
  • Eligibility requirements: U.S. citizenship is required for this position under applicable federal contract requirements. Candidate must also be able to obtain and maintain the security clearance required for the role including a Public Trust clearance; an active Secret or Top Secret clearance also satisfies this requirement.

  • Bachelors degree in Applied Mathematics Statistics Computer Science Data Science or a related field; 9 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • 36 years of experience in data science statistics or a related field.

  • Strong proficiency in Python or R for statistical modeling and data wrangling with experience using SQL to work with large complex datasets.

  • Experience with supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques including classification regression and clustering.

  • Experience with data visualization and communicating analytical findings to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS Azure or GCP with strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Applied Mathematics Statistics Computer Science Data Science or a related field.

  • Experience with Jupyter notebooks Git and collaborative coding workflows.

  • Experience supporting healthcare claims insurance or federal programs.

  • Familiarity with NLP or deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow PyTorch or Scikit-learn.

  • Experience mentoring junior team members.

$137000 - $155000 a year

The posted compensation range reflects the scope and requirements of this position. A final offer will be determined based on the candidates relevant experience skills education certifications and work location along with the responsibilities of the position. Where applicable contract requirements wage determinations and federal contract labor categories may also inform the offer.
