Job Description

Gilead Sciences Research Informatics is expanding and we are looking for a talented data engineer/system analyst to help design implement and support applications that enable data workflows registrations logistics scientific processes and advanced this role youll work at the intersection of software engineering and scientific innovation creating tools that directly support discovery and decision making.

• 75% data workflow
• 25% scripting application development

Responsibilities

• Key responsibilities include requirement gathering and analysis system configuration and administration data curation workflow testing create testing scripts training materials and documentations
• Under general direction provides application support for specific applications and solutions.
• Configures and develops computer applications and solutions by using analytical functional specifications and interpreting system design specifications.
• During system implementation and change management support test and refine application configurations to align with business process needs. Judgment required within confined guidelines.
• Works with business and IT partners to enhance applications to reduce operating time or improve efficiency.
• Prepare program-level and user-level documentation.
• Organizes prioritizes and coordinates multiple work activities to meet project deadlines. Identifies and documents business processes.
• Work directly with research scientists to probe and ask effective questions to fully diagnose both the problem root cause and research scientists comfort level with application.

Key Skills Needed

Communication:

• Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner.

o Ability to translate complex technical computer talk into simple terms for scientists and research goals into clear rules for developers.

Technical Knowledge:

o Understand drug discovery principles and processes or laboratory informatics systems; Understand software development lifecycle.

• Demonstrated ability to be a fast learner.
• Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adaptable to change to move between projects easily and provide support/expertise where needed.

Problem Solving:

• Demonstrates strong attention-to-detail and good organizational skills.

o Troubleshoot system errors and identify practical solutions seek advice/guidance as needed. Judgment required within confined guidelines.

Result Oriented:

o Able to set clear goals to achieve. Focus on impacts to research functions. Contributes to the completion of specific programs projects or responsible individual business targets.

• Good project management skills as evidenced by ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously without compromise to timelines or quality.
• Ability to execute multiple tasks as assigned.

Team Player:

o Ability to support a team-oriented highly-matrixed environment.

o Works under general direction. Collaborates with supervisory personnel as needed.

Basic Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science (or a related field)
• Bachelors degree and 2 years of relevant experience; OR
• Masters degree and some relevant experience
• Relevant business process and/or technical support programming project management or business analysis experience in a business environment or advanced degree

Preferred Qualifications

• Good understanding and application of technical principles theories and concepts in the field.
• Limited knowledge of other related disciplines.
• Uses other people as a sounding board for ideas complex problems.
