The Opportunity

Within Aeroflow the SQL Engineering team builds and supports the databases data pipelines and application logic that power critical operational workflows across the organization.

Our environment combines deeply established Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) systems with a growing AWS cloud ecosystem. As Aeroflow continues to scale the team is focused not only on supporting todays environment but also on thoughtfully modernizing how our data systems are built deployed and maintained for the future.

We are looking for a hands-on Data Engineer who enjoys solving complex engineering problems writing and optimizing production SQL improving existing systems and partnering directly with both technical teams and business stakeholders.

This is an engineering-focused position rather than a reporting BI or analytics-focused role. While every week will look a little different you can expect the role to be approximately 60% hands-on SQL/AWS engineering 20% business and technical partnership and 20% code review and engineering collaboration.

This position works on a hybrid schedule three days per week in the office.

Your Primary Responsibilities:

Hands-on Data & SQL Engineering:

  • Design develop and maintain reliable SQL-based solutions that support critical operational and application workflows.
  • Write and optimize complex SQL queries stored procedures data models and production database logic.
  • Troubleshoot optimize and refactor existing SQL code and legacy processes to improve performance reliability and maintainability.
  • Build and maintain scalable data pipelines and workflows across established database systems and modern AWS environments.
  • Navigate complex integrations and data dependencies across multiple systems and business functions.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce technical debt automate manual processes and thoughtfully modernize legacy solutions.

Business & Technical Partnership

  • Partner directly with business and technical stakeholders to understand the problem behind the requestnot simply execute against a ticket.
  • Translate business requirements into practical maintainable engineering solutions.
  • Ask thoughtful questions uncover dependencies and constraints and help stakeholders understand technical tradeoffs.
  • Collaborate closely with Application Engineering Analytics and other technology teams to deliver solutions that work effectively across systems and business functions.

Engineering Quality & Team Contribution

  • Review code and collaborate with other engineers to improve quality consistency performance and maintainability.
  • Apply sound technical judgment when balancing scalability reliability complexity performance and business needs.
  • Develop and maintain clear technical documentation for database architecture workflows and engineering processes.
  • Contribute as a hands-on individual engineer while sharing knowledge and helping strengthen engineering practices across the team.
  • Maintain HIPAA/patient confidentiality and comply with applicable laws regulations and company policies.
  • Compliance is a condition of employment and is considered an element of job performance.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance as assigned by your schedule.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • 3 years of professional experience in Data Engineering Database Engineering advanced SQL development or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Strong hands-on SQL engineering experience including writing and maintaining complex queries stored procedures data models and production database logic.
  • Professional experience with Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) or significant engineering experience with another relational database platform such as PostgreSQL MySQL or Oracle with the ability and willingness to transition into an MSSQL-heavy environment.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and improving SQL performance including query optimization indexing execution efficiency and database design.
  • Experience working with complex production databases and understanding how scale integrations and systemic dependencies affect engineering decisions.
  • Working knowledge of AWS or another modern cloud environment with the technical foundation and interest to continue developing cloud engineering expertise.
  • Experience reviewing debugging and improving existing code and database solutions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with business and technical stakeholders understand business requirements and translate them into practical engineering solutions.

You Might Also Have:

  • Experience working with very large databases (VLDBs) particularly environments of 1TB or greater.
  • Experience participating in or leading a migration from a legacy database or technology stack to a modern architecture or cloud environment.
  • Deeper hands-on experience with AWS services such as S3 RDS Glue Athena or related technologies.
  • Experience with Python Bash or another scripting language used for automation or data engineering.
  • Experience with orchestration or transformation tools such as Apache Airflow or dbt.
  • Experience with source control automated testing or CI/CD practices for database and data engineering changes.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical healthcare or other regulated production environments requiring strong availability security disaster recovery or audit discipline.
